this movie was one of the scariest movies iv seen in a long time. If I didnt know better I would have believed it was real. it made me lose sleep it is seriously scary. the slow build up of the story makes it more scary and suspensful.

Definitely not a perfect horror film, but one that played its cards right in establishing atmosphere and toying with the audience. Justifiably compared to the same style filmmaking as 'The Blair Witch Project,' though the material is handled a bit differently here. Probably not...( read more) enough to scare the die-hard horror fan, but accessible enough to a wide audience to indoctrinate a few fright-seekers.

ok it was basically like a better Blair Witch Project. Most of the movie was not very entertaining but a few of the night scenes were somewhat creepy. The only REALLY freaky parts were the final two night scenes which had my heart pumpin fast although I did not so much as flinch....( read more) Though most of the movie, even night scenes, did not frighten me, I could appreciate the creativity and eerie essence that the film was going for. I see why some people liked it and the footprints were, I thought, a nice touch, as well as the one or two loud demonic screams. For the low budget (it looked like a very extended youtube video), I thought it was pretty well done. It did make the movie a bit creepier that this was a demon instead of something else since I believe in demons so this, to me, is somewhat realistic. Movies always seem to be scarier when I think they can happen in real life.

El Proyecto de la Bruja de Blair fue una brillante idea y aterradora, ·Rec esta edificada con estilo y va creciendo poco a poco para dar un gran final, Paranormal Activity? Just BORING! too little, too late.-
  • January 3, 2010
Over hyped and slow. But still the last half hour of the movie makes all worth while. And it had a much better ending than the Blair Witch Project. Decent acting and for the small budget, the special effects were good enough. A film that just kept my interest in the whole thing, ...( read more)but watching an episode of Ghost Adventures is much better.

I saw this twice, once in theaters and once on DVD. In the theater, I thought this movie was excellent. When I watched it on the DVD, it was incredibly boring. The sound was really bad and the acting seemed a lot worse. This movie only cost $15,000 though. Pretty spectacular. If ...( read more)you are planning on being a director or something of the sort, I would watch this. The dude who created this made millions off of a $15K investment.

seriously the movie did it's job,it scared me!
I'm not really the kind of person that freak out on a movie but that one!the way it's filmed makes it looked even more realistic, you know home videos quality (kinda like Cloverfield...or blairwitch project...)anyway that was worth a...( read more) watch and I'll probably make my friends watch it as well just to freak them out too ! I really recommend it if you want to watch something scary and worth it :)

Had some creepy moments, makes you wonder if shit like this happens. I'm not sure what I would do in this situation, probably burn the house down, who knows.
  • January 3, 2010
    Overrated, but still good.
  • January 3, 2010
Hands down, the scariest movie I've ever seen. I let out two extended screams, was sweating, getting the chills, goose bumps... the whole works. Needs to be watched at home with all the lights off.
  • January 3, 2010
Scared the living hell out of me!!!
  • January 3, 2010
I am completely confused how anyone can say this movie was scary
Throughout the entire movie, I kept waiting for it to get better, but it never did
The best part of the movie can be seen in the preview for it
I was extremely disappointed in Paranormal Activity
  • January 3, 2010
    seen it quiet boring

If it is based on a true story, then the house is really scarily haunted.

Anyway, the performance from both leads Katie & Micah are very good.

Rated 3.5 stars by Roger Ebert.

The Blair Witch Project tops this, no doubt. Paranormal Activity was not as realistic as TBWP. It started off a bit slow... The worst horror movie made in the 21st Century.
It was ridiculously slow and easy to laugh at.
The acting was poor which made it unbelivable.
The trailer was scarier than the entire movie.

Harrowing, realistic story about something supernatural that is disturbing a young couple at their suburban home in the early hours of the morning. Another hand held camera film that follows in the cult success of films such as The Blair Witch Project, REC, and Cloverf...( read more)ield. The "realism" of these types of films leaves the viewer with an overwhelming sense of creepiness because it's eerily realistic. Paranormal Activity is no different.

This film is sure to divide moviegoers, but if watched in a dark room late at night, it's is undoubtedly chilling! Director Oren Peli does an excellent job conjuring up some truly chilling and creepy moments. This is one of those films that hindered my sleep the night after I watched it. Paranormal Activity was made for next to nothing and has made tons of money based off a good word of mouth reputation and a very effective marketing campaign... so in that sense, the film is immensely successful.

In a year that was lacking in good horror flicks, Paranormal Activity is easily the scariest movie of 2009.

It should also be noted that the alternate ending on the DVD is MUCH better than the theatrical ending. Check it out if you get the opportunity.

OK but not as good as everyone said.
  • January 1, 2010
The characters were a bit annoying, especially Katie because they're all over the place but it was creepy and interesting enough. Not scary though but exciting to watch with a group of friends late at night.

By far and large one of the more interesting flicks of 2009, Paranormal Activity isn't just another overhyped and overblown flick ( if not an overbudget movie at that). Produced for a mere $15 grand, P.A. does something that many horror flicks of late couldn't seem to accomplish-...( read more) that is, scare the living hell out of you. A suburban San Diego couple move into their new home and discover that, well, they have company. Not a simple floor creak or things that simply go bump in the night, it turns out to be a demonic presence. One way to capture these unexplained happenings is for Micah ( the films' co-star) to go out and purchase a video camera. After setting it up in the bedroom on a tripod and hitting the record button before the couple go to bed, it will soon capture some of the most spine-tingling action they will have ever seen. Over a period of 21 days and nights, the camera captures everything that they do not see while they are asleep. After promising not to bring home an Ouija board, Micah brings one home and supposably, stirs up the demon even more. Its in the second half of the 21 day filming where things get really frightening for the couple. Lights go on and off, loud footsteps can be heard ( in one scene, those same footsteps are visible), Katie ( the films' other co-star) begins to sleepwalk and by the last remaining nights of recording, is dragged inexplicably out of bed and out of the room by the entity. The films' final ending is spooky if not mysterious- Katie sleepwalks out of the room and after a terrifying scream, Micah rushes to her aid. What we don't see is what actually happens to Micah ( the action takes place out of view in the dark). Katie re-enters the bedroom and unexpectedly, hurls Micah's lifeless body at the camera, knocking it over. What gives P.A. its edge is the camera work- its what you don't see or expect that keeps you suspenseful.

Above average in both realisation and concept. Pushing the Blairwitch project movie to the extreme. Great cast apart from Katie girlfriend but the rest is great. Pushing the unbeleviable in the right order.

This movie was as scary as the Alvin and the chimpmunks movie. I rented this movie to see what the fuss is all about and after watching this movie I felt like I was hoodwinked. The "found footage" style of movie is getting a little tired, but this one is still full of good old fashioned chills.
  • January 1, 2010
I'll say this: it worked. Mostly. The final night wasn't so much scary as showy (and therefore less effective), but it wasn't any worse than the original ending. I have never been creeped out by a horror film but this was by far the scariest movie I have seen. Not recommended for everyone that's for sure.

Just goes to show you that any idiot with a camera and shitty actors can make big money with a shitty movie but top notch directors and actors with good movies are left out in the cold

I really got tired of the girl acting like she was bi-polar

I made a promise to myself to see this flick before the end of the year, I'm so glad I did. This was a different take on the Blair Witch Project. I like the home movie quality of it.
