The dashing Alfred seduces Nancy, the 17-year-old daughter of Sir Harry Oakes, even though he's almost twice her age. The twice-divorced playboy quickly sweeps Nancy off her feet, and they marry. One night, someone brutally murders Harry on his estate during a storm, and de Marigny becomes the prime suspect. Although the police arrest Alfred and put him on trial for the crime, Nancy refuses to believe her husband committed the crime. So, she hires private detective Raymond Schindler to investigate and get her husband off the hook. But time starts running out as the trial gets underway, and Alfred's life hangs in the balance.
