Pathfinder

Karl Urban, Moon Bloodgood, Russell Means, Clancy Brown, Jay Tavare

In an untamed, primordial America, 500 years before Columbus will reach its shores, unfolds an epic battle between love and hate that will change one man's destiny and the future of a nation: "Pathfin...( read more  read more... )der." This action-adventure saga recreates one of the most riveting, yet never-before-seen, eras in human history--when Viking "dragon" ships from the mysterious Norse lands arrived out of nowhere to invade a pristine North America. Inspired by historical findings, yet forged with the magic and style of a modern graphic novel, "Pathfinder" comes to life in a cinematic experience filled with intense and primal action.

Really wanted to cower at this celluloid spectacle's physical presence. The elements were present: marauding, pillaging Vikings displaying brutal, forceful dominance; an indigenous Tribe of Native Americans adoption of one 'forgotten Viking son' as their own; the lone, hybrid War...( read more)rior; a battle for existence in the balance. Yet, it disappoints. A combination of 'The 13th Warrior', 'The Last of the Mohicans' and 'The New World' at best. Karl Urban (Kirill in 'The Bourne Supremacy') plays the brooding Ghost, the adopted Viking. Russell Means **** in 'The Last of the Mohicans') the Tribal Pathfinder and Clancy Brown (no explanation required) the dastardly head Viking Gunnar. Throw in sexy gal Starfire (Moon Bloodgood, that's the female actors name - honest) and a Director (Marcus Nispel) who cut his teeth doing Pop Promos for the likes of Billy Joel, Janet Jackson and George Michael. Don't judge, everyone starts somewhere. The direction and lavish visuals are excellent - a treat. But not enough to prevent numb-bum syndrome. At times the line between 'Pathfinder' and 'The Last of the Mohicans' blurs, certain Daniel Day-Lewis was poking around in the woods. Action sequences are good, but nothing especially new or invigorating. Someone can only be chopped up by sword in so many ways. All that said, go see it or rent it. Can't hurt. If it does, it'll only be your bum.

This gory battle adventure is stealing from a lot of films but doesn't have much to offer all by itself. A little "Last of the Mohicans", a lot of "13th warrior" and lots of violence. The script would fit on one sheet of paper, the dialogs on even less. Conan was babbling compare...( read more)d to this. Not even the action is convincing, it is oddly slow paced and additionally shot in slow motion. It's not as if the movie has no interesting ideas at all, but they are all ruined by stereotypes and the bad writing. Just try guessing in which order the characters will die, it's quite simple. The decision to make the villains faceless barbarians with very few human features kills any interesting aspect the shown conflict could have. The revenge, laying traps, faking cooperation...it's all been done before and much better. Skip this.

Vikings were business men, sure they delt with business with axe and sword, but I doubt they went there to slaughter. For one thing the indians had nothing of value to loot.
    Anyway, I liked the movie.

Don't think this has anything to do with reality. I have seen the 1000 AD Viking settlement in Newfoundland; they were not this wild. But history aside, it makes for a fine good vs. evil story.

I was somewhere in the middle on this one. It was a decent film with good action and a decent story but something left me wanting. Im still not sure what.

I was really disappointed about how they portrayed the Vikings in this movie...

The movie is not awful and it's not the best either. It's sort of in between. The movie revolves around a young man being left by his fellow Norse brethren due to him not wanting to kill the townspeople they were ransacking. If you know nothing about the Vikings, well they were s...( read more)ome pretty mean people and did some dastardly things. But other than than that, that's what the movie is based one, he is going to get his revenge.

I am a huge Karl Urban fan. I simply just loved this movie. There is very few viking movies around. This one showed you just how brutal they were.

Could have been a classic it looked awesome and the action was pretty good just lacked a good script and good actors. first half had some awesome scenes but near the end of the movie it just starts to fail and could have been awesome with a massive viking battle.
