Deals with a similar story to to the recent French move A Very long Engagement. But no happy endings here.

kubrick - so obviously thoughtful, deep and shot beutifully. A bit dated and some acting OTT, but superior anti-war flick. Touching ending when all the french soldiers start humming a german song sung by a female POW. We love you stanley

  • May 22, 2007

  • April 28, 2007
Cobb's novel of the same name is given a serious and successful visual treatment by Kubrick. Douglas and company are first rate and this movie still moves audiences today.
  • April 28, 2007
Great Kubrick film. Kirck Douglas does a great job of portraying the potential insansity of war as a profession. A Few Good Men is a good modern comparison.

  • April 8, 2007
In the trenches of World War I, French forces are ordered to make an impossible charge on a superior German position. Kubrick, with his penchant for the absurd, tells the story of one man's battle against the corrupt, glory-seeking generals who ordered the charge.

Que eminencia de director un poco loco o mejor muy loco pero esas ideas fueron las que lo hizieron grande
  • March 25, 2007
If I'm not mistaken, this film was banned in France until 1975, some 18 years after its release. Compelling movie about the ravages of war, morals and ethics. Kirk Douglas is tremendous.

War movies are kind of like sports movies.

You don't care, and to you victory on either side is pointless because both sides have a voice, and neither is bad or good.

I refuse to be inspired! REFUSE!

A very different and shocking war film that invented the long one take shot. It ends on a bad note much like life.

  • February 25, 2007
The feelings. The unrighteousness. This movie makes you feel the unrighteousness. You know you didnt do anything wrong and did what was right at the moment, but you cant help it. Its war.

  • February 3, 2007
One of the most powerful films in history; incredibly moving story. The main battle scene is as spectacular as any out there, but the film's greatness comes from the unflinching story, the depth of the writing, and Stanley Kubrick's brilliant direction; they way the camera moves...( read more) through the trenches is unforgettable.

Fantastic film. Some of Kubrick and Douglas' best work. A quiet anti-war statement set during war time.
  • January 24, 2007
A great WWI pic. An intellectual war movie.
  • January 17, 2007
The oldest movie in my collection and certainly one of the very best ones I own!
This is a movie about extreme unjustice in 1916 in France, during the First World War. It is not for soft hearts, but I recommend it to everyone!
One of Kubrick's and Douglas' most outstanding movies!
  • January 12, 2007
