I like Kevin James in the "King of Queens" so I rented this. It was pitiful.

No, this is certainly not a piece of cinematic genus, but for light fare it will do.
I have always had a soft spot for Kevin James. He does physical comedy very well and he just comes across as incredibly personable.
The PG rating is definitely pushing it. Even though the com...( read more)edy never went too bawdy it did have enough "peril" and "implied violence" that it almost met that PG-13 rating. The humor never devolved into jokes about bodily fluids and there was no sexuality to speak of.
The story is about a nice guy who actually gets to stand up and sing a little...or a lot. The stunts and the set ups are fun and even though some of the best jokes were in the previews this was a cute watch that pretty much met my expectations (albeit those expectations were quite low).
A good physical comedy with a decent heart.
Don't rush to go see it, but no need to dismiss it either.

Pretty funny for a family movie. Sometimes the jokes worked and at times the jokes didn't work or were forced. That is the way I felt about Kevin James' performance. There were times when he was hilarious and than at times his performance felt forced. Kind of like the love story....( read more) There didn't seem to be any chemistry between James and Mays. But I thought that was well worth the time though.

It was a lesson learning /funny and surviving story alot of different mixture of movie types, but really good

Entertaining in the "turn off your brain" and "watch on TV at 2:00 on a Saturday" kind of way. The film does have a couple of humorous bits in it, but there were so many plot holes here, I couldn't keep track of them and they ultimately interfered with the plot, even though I wa...( read more)s expecting them. That it clocked it at an economical 87 minutes makes it definitely watchable, however. Nice job by Kevin James in the lead role and interesting to compare with the Seth Rogen vehicle Observe and Report.

one of those movies where you mostly get exactly what you expect. extremely simplistic characters, hokey love story, unrealistic action sequences. but none of these elements is so overwhelmingly bad that the film becomes something distinctly worse than a nineties adam sandler. th...( read more)ere are unexpectedly dark moments such as the jerk pen salesman and the a-hole mall cop boss repeatedly demeaning blart even though they are more pathetic than he is. also the fact that blart's love interest is about half his age seems to be just fine by his family. there isn't a constant stream of jokes as in, say, step brothers, but there are two or three gut-busting moments. perhaps i relate to this film more than others because where i come from everyone is like paul blart, and as such he is extremely relatable. he is not a caricatured hardass but an exceedlingly innocent victim in this film. although i spotted a whole bunch of flaws, mishaps, and problems in this film, i still give it the medium rating.

I know this is January, the month where dreadful movies go to die, and I know we have to take what we can get. But this? Spring has rarely seemed so far away. full review

The last name Blart may be the funniest thing in the movie, so that's a hint as to just how bad this shopping-center saga can be. full review

Paul Blart: Mall Cop is a slapstick comedy with a hero who is a nice guy. I thought that wasn't allowed anymore. full review
