'scuse me while i vomit quick (oh, and the last time i watched this movie i was still a hormone-overloaded 16/17/18 yr old girl!!!)
ok, so the sfx and and bombing / kamikaze scenes were pretty sweet, but how frikken soppy and predictable was the story? the last movie in which i tolerated overuse of the tried and tested pulling-at-the-old-heart-strings war movie ploys was saving private ryan, and at the end of that movie i swore "never again" enough is e-frikken-nough!!!
so ja, cool sfx, but dismal performances by actors and and actresses alike, and overuse of tear tactics...
Ben Affleck annoys me. I wish Cuba had played his part in the movie. I understand that wouldn't have been ideal though given the era. Overall, a great cinematic achievement.
Another Hollywood thinks they can do it better now but get hung up in the effects and forget the fact that one of their leading men (BA) can't act and has no chemistry with the girl.
Well, Michael Bay you can't direct drama either. Aside from the fact that the actual incident is played out like a video game, the whole film is instantly forgettable, dull and very hollow
There have always been two different types of war movie. Those that focus on strategy, nobility, honor& valor in a war & those that focus on the ugliness of war always reminding us that it's a terrible thing.
Pearl Harbor manages to do both. The heroism of the two protagonists and honor between them. But in the same scene it has thousands of drowning men clamoring for air.
The drama is amazing because it convincingly sets up a drama that is no fault of any of the characters. When Rafe gets back invariably the shit and the fan collide at high speeds and although seeing the two friends fighting alongside one another is real feel-good scene when the priority shit-fan collision takes place drama is thrown out the window in favor of ooh pretty. The battle scene is amazingly well done and the Japanese attack very well recreated. But it feels over-synthesized because the character drama's been driving all of the film up to that point and all of a sudden the plot's taking input from the outside.
Despite Ben Afflek's being a complete idiot he acts an amazing part in this film and was a real highlight for me.
This is one of the best WWII films around and as a war movie it still rates very highly.
Two hours of horrific crap to get to the ten minutes we want to see - And it wasn't worth it. Sad. To take something that was shocking and turn it into mundane takes a special kind of skill.
finally saw it and loved it. great special effects and the characters are very convincing. you get drawn into the story pretty quickly and you won't want to leave your seat. lots of sadness in it but well balanced with the individual's separate times of happiness.
Michael Bay is an insane genius, with the parts in this movie. Isn't as bad as everyone says. But, then again, it should have not tried so hard to be Titanic.
Ugh...it was the World War II version of Titanic. Alright on the action, but the actual events were overshadowed by an insufferable love story. How Michael Bay did this movie and The Rock, I'll never know.
This, again, made me ask the question: "why?" People that I don't care about fall in love, then one dies, then the remaining people I don't like have angst. Pointless? Why, yes. But cool special effects.
If you want to see a romance and betrayald movie... this is a good choise! Nice video and sounds effects, the story.. kind of predictible! maybe this will teach some guys that when you find the woman of your dreams... DON'T LEAVE HER BEHIND for your others patetic interest!!! Just keep her! stay with her!! or someone else WILL!!!
