Not my favorite version, but the essence of the story is still there.

So romantic...even though I found it completely frustrating that it took them until the last 6 min. of the movie to finally get together. This should have been called Frustration..lol. At least on my part. But thank goodness all went perfectly well at the end. Yay!

The perfect Austen adaptation for me. The best of ITV1's Austen season. I really loved this one a lot. Of course Rupert-Penry Jones is in it, so what's not to like? Possibly the only adaptation which comes close to pride and prejudice.

I've never read the novel so I was on the edge of my seat wondering if Anne Elliot would ever end up with the man of her dreams that she let go of eight years ago.
Sally Hawkins did a marvelous job acting with her regretful eyes and sorrowful smile as she watched her beloved and wondered if he forgave her and if he would give her a second chance at love and happiness. Rupert Penry-Jones is a dashingly-handsome Wentworth and the audience is captivated by his personality. No one wonders why Anne is still in love with him after all these years! The scenes were beautifully photographed and there are many lovely scenes. The musical score is breathtaking and the pacing is never hurried yet never boring.

Disappointing BBC adaptation of Jane Austen novel. A confusing screenplay by Simon Burke, at least for those not familiar with the novel. Sally Hawkins is too one-dimensional; she needs to display some lighter, warmer aspects to her personality, so that the heart's burden she carries seems all the realer when she does display that. She just doesn't come across as especially sympathy engendering. There's never any real crackle in the dialogue, or chemistry between couples.

Quick Review</I></B>
Sally Hawkins pulls off a deeply mature and naunced performance as Austen heroine Anne Elliot, a woman desperate to repair past mistakes and win back the man she truly loves. Shergold's direction moves erratically between heartfelt and pantomime, the cinematography is a little static and the narrative bulk just oozes conventionality; yet the last half an hour leaves us completely engrossed as Hawkins has us rooting for an unlikely hero. It's all just too little, too late.

A nice adaptation of the Jane Austen classic.
