Favourite Disney as a child. Not that it was written by Disney, he just took the credit but unfortunately not enough children (or adults for that matter) realise this.

Not the best of the Disney movies, but a good story nonetheless.

    Pinocchio (1940)

Far and away, my favorite, all-time, Disney animated movie. It shows some of the best animation and backgrounds that you can find. The old man Geppetto's workshop is wondrous with all of the clocks and wood carvings. And the giant whale coughing up our heros ...( read more)shows what brilliant artists can do. The beautiful depiction of the blue fairy, was exactly what Jiminy Cricket felt, "Gosh!"

The movie had some of the most notable songs of the Disney Library, When You Wish Upon A Star is basically Disney's theme song now, My Little Wooden Head, I've Got No Strings On Me, and Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide are great too.

Most of this movie is about growing up and making good choices, and what the consequences are of making bad choices. This has become sort of a Disney staple. Although, granted, little Pinnochio was taken in by some hucksters and players, he sort of passively went along with the crowd, but he always had a good heart about it. Was he good enough to become a real boy, though?

Although, I lucked out and got the early DVD, it's scheduled re-release on BlueRay is coming this Spring 2010. If you don't have this already, you should probably wait for this release.
