The daylight can burn you,but the darkness will kill you.Eith little power and dwindling numbers, the doomed passengers turn to a vicious convict for help.
Brilliant film, bit scary but with Vin Diesel it's not so bad, i love the way his eyes look in this film, he's awsome but much better in Fast and the furious
"Look, everybody! It's Vin Diesel! In a good movie!"- EW
On one hand, the innovative take on space exploration was fresh, the visuals (though entirely shot in the dark) were very gripping, the special effects were terrific, and the movie capitalized well on the suspense aspect of it's story line. On the other hand, not enough substance in terms of the "meat" of the story, predictable story progression, and B class acting from the entire cast.
5 years ago, this movie would have garnered a 4 1/2 star rating; after watching it so many more times, it's quality doesn't seem fit for that rating anymore.
Decent time-waster that would have benefited from better dialogue and more convincing CGI. Vin Disel thankfully doesn't have too speak much and does an adequate job of acting tough. The various support characters don't reallly add much and so you have little sympathy for them as the inevitable happens. Worth a watch.
Dark, oppressive, scary, thrilling and breathtaking movie, where different people have to start trusting each other - or die. Vin Diesel's character never changes to a fully good, responsible, caring man - which is something that happens all too often in this kind of movies - and keeps the things on edge constantly. Survival against strange creatures on a foreign planet is the first priority to all.
An okay film, but if you've seen the far better(and slightly more famous) The Chronicles Of Riddick, then theres no point in watching this movie, because you already know who lives and dies. The alien/monsters are touch and go in realism and are at there best when interacting with the characters because they spent more to make them look more realistic. The characters are a bit predictable when it comes to who lives and dies with only a couple surprises. Vin Diesel has however come up with a compelling and amazing character that I wish we could see more films, comics, books etc. of, because he's just freaking cool! Most of the action is quick and sometimes not captured very well and then other times it's amazing to watch! The last half of the film is the best and nicely paced. If only I had seen this before COR then I would have enjoyed it a lot more. So if you've gotten your hands on a chance to watch all three then be sure to watch this one first before the rest.
What's good about this film isn't the creatures or the action sequences. The interactions between the characters is reminiscent of Hitchcock's Lifeboat and the 1989 version of Ten Little Indians.
Fight Evi with Evil. At first I liked the tag line, but as I soon began to realize, the "evil" man isn't as quite evil as he seems. Also, awesome creatures!
Surprising in many aspects and not a bad sci-fi movie at all. Hard to believe that Vin Diesel was also the voice of the loveable "Iron Giant" before he got this role.
It's been a while since a good sci-fi movie ever entertains the masses. This movie is similar to Ridley Scott's Alien. Here's the difference - the hero is a bad guy. Vin Diesel shines so well that makes him the toughest hero in ever! A good cast and not a really bad movie!
Excellent Riddick an escaped criminal is being transported back to civilization for trial when the ship he is in crash lands on a planet that is always day time or is it when an eclipse happens it plunges the planets surface into darkness and it is then that the fun begins
Exciting sci-fi action horror yarn is a pretty intriguing production, but falls far short of perfection. A mixture of different genres; what starts as a sci-fi adventure moves onto a sci-fi horror flick, and the transition works quite well. The film opens as a group of space travellers aboard a transport vessel are marooned when they crash land on a desert planet. As the captain died during the crash, the group turn to the pilot, Carolyn Fry (Mitchell), as the tentative leader. Among the survivors there is a bounty hunter (Hauser) and his prey - a fugitive named Riddick (Diesel) who has no respect for anyone but himself. While searching for any form of life on the planet, and for supplies, they stumble across the remains of what was once a colony...and the creatures that caused the citizens of said colony to be wiped out entirely. After the first half, the film sinks into a silly predictable clichéd horror movie full of silly characters and excuses for people to be killed. A real shame, because the first half was superb. Pitch Black was a pretty good movie, but marred merely by its descent into the world of clichés and predictability. An interesting premise...it's just such a shame it didn't deliver on it.
