Excellent... Charlie Sheen was brilliant in the lead role though I still believe it should have been Johnny Depp - they seem to have quite similar acting styles though... and Willem Dafoe was to die for back in the day... the rest of the casting was brilliant and all in all it totally worked
love Willem Dafoe, sorry he hasd to die, Tom Berenger...thats all I have to say, he was that amazing with the smart ass humor that I love. This is actually a good war movie.
Very Good Film!! Not Best War Film That I Have Ever Watched Though!! Great Acting From Tom Berenger And Willem Dafoe!! Oscar Worthy Performances!! I Was Surprised That It Won Best Picture 1986!!
These men are the salt of the earth, mom. They try to rape a young girl now and then, but, still, the salt of the earth...Oliver Stone is not a sane person.
wow esa es la palabra que describe la pelicula ya que tiene buenas actuaciones, un buen grupo de actores, un buen director y ademas cuentan la historia super brutal
The other day I saw half of the movie!(I didn't watch the rest cause I was watching Criminal Minds!) I was loving the story so I want to see the rest!!
I went and saw this in the theaters with my dad, who was in Vietnam. He stated that this was probably the closest portrayal of the Vietnam Conflict that he has ever seen.
Disturbing, Gritting, compelling. Platoon is no doubt one of the strongest war films ever. It would rank highly among the best films of any genre. I didn't think Charlie Sheen could pull off a role like this, but he certainly did, and did it very well. The other supporting actors also did a terrific job, and it was great to see Johnny Depp in another early role. Overall a terrific film.
Ya, these are really good movies and all... but after a while, the war movies all start looking the same... awesome cast though! Johnny Depp was a suprise... I just think people found something that worked and did it a whole bunch of times... Apocolypse Now, Platoon, Jarhead... even though Jarhead didn't get anything...
Director: Oliver Stone. Cast: Everybody, from Charlie Sheen to Forest Whitaker to Willem Dafoe. One of the best war movies I have ever seen. Let me tell you why.
Although we see the war through the eyes of an American soldier, the movie actually critisizes the Americans for the brutality shown to the Vietnamese during the war. We have fantastic acting from the all - star cast (who may not have been all - star at the time, but they deserve it now), and some obscenities most people have never heard of (cheese - dicks?).
My only problem with the movie was that some of the scenes were far too dark. You have to distinguish the actors from their voices alone. Loses the movie half a star.
A social portrait like no other, 'Platoon' will make you doubt your own veracity and morals unlike any movie you've ever seen.
Wow!!what a war film! I saw this 3 times at the movies, tells the story of a group of soldiers(some new, some veterns)who are sent to discover the Vietnam war, great performances from Defoe and Berenger, and excellent directing from another one of my favorite directors...Oliver Stone
One of the best war films ever made. Oliver Stone takes us into the hell that is war. Charlie Sheen plays a young man who has nothing better to do then sign up for the army. He is sent into the jungles of Vietnam where he meets many different types of people. We have the nice guys, the annoying guys, and some that are plain evil. Really moving and sometimes disturbing.
wow i have not seen this war movie in ages...this is a great war movie...i think this is pretty decent movie..this is really sad, moving at the same time as well the soundtrack 2 this movie is amazing throughout...this is a good war movie n its got a great cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie its really enjoyable 2 watch n its a really powerful war movie..
"Are you smoking this shit so's to escape from reality? Me, I don't need this shit. I am reality. There's the way it ought to be, and there's the way it is. Elias was full of shit. Elias was a crusader. Now, I got no fight... with any man who does what he's told. But when he don't, the machine breaks down. And when the machine breaks down, we break down. And I ain't gonna allow that... in any of you. Not one."
I find it hard sometimes to get into war films, this was one of them. I'm not saying it was bad, I just didn't like it quite as much as some other people did. Maybe if I watch it again sometime I might like it a little more, but for now it leaves me satisfied, nothing more.
The movie is based around a man, Chris Taylor, who has volunteered to fight for his country in the Vietnam War. Only soon after he arrives he struggles to survive, and realises that he is insignificant to the other soldiers as he has not been at the war for as long as they have. A rivalry is soon formed between his two commanding officers, so he soon realises that he is not only battling with his enemy, but with the conflict between the men in his platoon. There were two main reasons I saw this.. one being that it comes highly recommended by some of my friends.. the other that I wanted to see Johnny Depp. If someone only saw this because of Johnny (And I was close to that) then you might be a little disappointed. His role is very small, I found myself looking out for him throughout the whole movie.. waiting to see him, waiting for him to speak. Unfortunately he hardly says anything, but it's still interesting to see a successful actor like him in one of his older movies.
Charlie Sheen as Chris Taylor was someone I am unfamiliar with, so I didn't know what to expect from him. I thought he did a pretty decent job pulling off the main role in this flick. Willem Dafoe I really liked in this.. his character was one of the more like able ones, and he gave a strong performance. One scene I will definitely not forget from him was the shot that is used as the cover.. so convincing and horrifying, that was a very memorable moment for the film. Tom Berenger was great for his role.. creating a very odious character. Johnny Depp was brilliant for his small part, an intense performance from him.
My rating reflects my like of war films.. though this did have a great cast and amazing performances.. war movies like this just aren't my thing. Like I said though, a second viewing might make me change what I think of this film.
