Plot: Three comic episodes set in Suite 719 of New York City's Plaza Hotel.
Matthau is flawless in the 70's and he is great in this movie. He plays 3 different characters and they are all great. The 1st story with Maureen Stapleton is the best and most dramatic. The 2nd story is the weakest, but is still entertaing. The last story is Matthau just being pissed off and funny. If you like Matthau then this is a must-see.
This movie is guaranteed to be horrible so here is some Billy Squire for your amusement:
"Now everybody, have you heard
If you're in the game, then the stroke's the word
Don't take no rhythm, don't take no style
Got a thirst for killin' - grab your vial... "
First person to name that song will get an invisible bowl of rice.
Matthau shows off his range as an actor in no less than three roles in this Neil Simon adaptation. The final segment (a slapstick farce about a young bride who locks herself into a bathroom and Matthau's - the father's - efforts to get her out) is brilliant.
This board looks lonely. Be the first to talk about "Plaza Suite" !
