  Semi decent comedy with a few comical parts. Police Academy suffers from the lack of really funny jokes, and never really quite takes off. The film is funny at times, but most of the time you're not laughing, and when there's something that supposed to be funny in the film, you don't laugh. The film is fun for what it is, never really anything good or great. Just really in between. The film manages to get a few chuckles, but never really makes laugh out loud. The film had potential to truly be a memorable comedy, but instead it ends being a decent one at best. The screenwriters should have spent more time on the script. The film feels cheesy at times and never really has anything great going for it. There a good moments to be had, it's a fun film to watch. But there's nothing great about it. Police Academy manages to be deliver somewhat, it has good things going for it like a good cast that save it from being a total train wreck. Like I said too there's good comedy here, but there's not enough to keep the ball rolling and truly make Police Academy a comedy classic. This is of course one of the weaker cop comedies, Super Troopers, The Other Guys and Cop Out are far better in my book. But for a few gags, the film is a fun viewing experience. Just don't go expecting something hilarious, or else you'll surely be disappointed.

  Criminally underrated, and as are the sequels (most of them anyhow). Judging from the low ratings on IMDB, it seems a lot of people dislike the whole Police Academy franchise. I can understand if it's not to everyone's humor, but in my opinion they've received an undeserved amount of bashing. Sure, they may be really stupid and over the top, but aren't parody flicks supposed to be? Now I can't speak for the whole series, as I haven't seen some of the last installments, but I've always enjoyed them for their lighthearted goofiness. There's such a great variety of characters, and all with their own unique and fun personalities. Like Michael Winslow for instance, a.k.a "The Sound Effects Guy". I never get tired of watching his acts. And what teenage boy haven't fantasized about a hot night with Leslie Easterbrook. She may put me in cuffs any day of the week.

  Gently funny in the most stupid of ways. It's very immature, but in an almost innocent kind of way. It works due to the wide range of frankly bizarre characters. There's no real plot, just a series of events, but the battle of the wits between Bailey and Guttenberg is worth watching. Anyone who grew up on these films knows these characters without knowing much about them. Winslow, Smith, Raynes etc. All add to the charm and simplicity of it all. Never as funny as I remember from being a child, it's still highly enjoyable and impossible to dislike. Nostalgia? Certainly, but it needs some quality to still entice me in after all these years.

  Itâ??s nowhere near being a good movie, but itâ??s so harmless and fun that you canâ??t avoid having fun while watching. Itâ??s got perfectly goofy characters: Hightower, Sound Effects Guy, The Skinhead Brothers, etc. and some really funny jokes that are just flat out bizarre (the blow job podium). Itâ??s one of the many Steve Guttenberg vehicles, but definitely one of his better ones. Thereâ??s nothing really unique or great about it, but itâ??s definitely one of those movies that just needs to be seen once.

  "Move out, maggots! " One of the most memorable comedies from the 80's. This film proved that something totally witless can end up getting a bunch of fans and sadly... a bunch of really bad sequels. The story itself probably gave some laughs to the filmmakers before they even began shooting the film. A bunch of losers and outcasts join the academy for various reasons, some reluctantly and some because it's what they're made to do... The film is insanely funny, a total gag fest at its finest. The strongest part in the movie is its memorable characters, Michael Winslow's walking soundfactor Jones, Marion Ramsey's peeping Hooks and many more. Of course, "Police Academy" series wouldn't be anything without Steve Guttenberg's Mahoney. This film made Guttenberg a star and the series had some life in it as long as he was in it. After he left the franchise, Guttenberg was forgotten and the "Police Academy" films went downhill.. and fast. But nevertheless, "Police Academy" remains as one of the best comedies and it surely is timeless entertainment. I've seen it many times and still enjoy it. I just try to forget the sequels...

  The city is in need of more police officers, so the mayor decides to alter the requirements for acceptance into the Police Academy. Among the new cadets is Moses Hightower, a gentle giant who was a florist. Leslie Barbara, who is tired of being picked on. Laverne Hooks, a mousy, meek voice person. Karen Thompson, a socialite, who hopes that it'll allow her the opportunity to meet some unusual people. Eugene Tackleberry, a guy who likes to discharge his weapon. Larvell Jones, a human sound effects machine, who was met at the police station by Carey Mahoney, a guy who is basically a good guy but has a little trouble with authority figures, a retaliates by committing outrageous acts that get him arrested. He is fortunate that police Captain Reed is a good friend of his father and has been bailing him out but now Reed thinks that jail is what Mahoney needs but Mahoney disagrees. Reed suggest that Mahoney join the police academy but must complete the 14 week course or else he will be sent to jail. So Mahoney brings Jones with him hoping that he can help Mahoney get thrown out. This film is a funny comedy with some raunchiness and a lot of slapstick jokes that will make you smile and laugh throughout the movie. Of course, it's not the best film ever made but it is entertaining for those who want to laugh and kill a few minutes out of their lives. As with the comedy, this film also have some serious scenes and take on a serious subject on one scene, which was done well and surprised me a lot. This is a film where you wouldn't expect as much but you get a bit more that it offers. I'm sure any viewer will at least connect with one character in the film because there are many of them with some great personalities and some having their moment to shine on the screen for at least one scene. The acting by most of them were pretty funny, overall. If you would like to see a comedy be more than you think it'll be, watch this film. You'll like it and be entertained throughout. But don't expect some huge mumble jumbo that will happen somewhere because it's really not that big of a movie but gives some good laughs. Highly recommended. Followed by at least 7 sequels that didn't live up to this one.

  The original Police Academy movie is a classic! It started it all, and has tons of jokes per minute. I even wanted to be a police officer back then.
