Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"The movie had its moment in the sun, somebody made a lot of money from it and then it vanished. Mercifully so in most ways, but not without leaving at least a little whiff of younger, happier days behind."
‑ Rob Vaux, Mania.com
"Goofy group makes 'Car 54 Where Are You?' seem like Shakespeare."
‑ Steve Crum, Kansas City Kansan
"It's harmless stuff, to be sure, but almost invisible, it disappears from memory so fast. A stealth comedy, perhaps?"
‑ John J. Puccio, Movie Metropolis
"And it only went downhill from here"
‑ Ken Hanke, Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)
"Sophomoric '80's cop-spoof has profanity, sex, stereotypes."
‑ Brian Costello, Common Sense Media
"A tasteless comedy."
‑ Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat, Spirituality and Practice
"You know how people talk about a movie being so bad it's good? Police Academy is that movie."
‑ Christopher Null, Filmcritic.com
"One of the worst popular comedies of all time."
‑ Bob Grimm, Las Vegas Mercury
"Funny! Funny! Funny!"
‑ Michael A. Smith, Nolan's Pop Culture Review
"A Reagan-era screed against affirmative action, Police Academy warns what misfits and lowlifes wait to pour through the floodgates."
‑ Martin Scribbs, Low IQ Canadian
"Excellent misfit comedy. The R rating gives it edge that the sequels lack."
‑ Fred Topel, About.com
