Classic 'Family' horror movie. Tobe Hooper must have been really suffocated by the bearded one though as its hard to believe he didn't direct it. That said, the creepy still framed shots are Hooper at his best!

Typical Spielberg themes of the broken family in the suburbs. Bitch gets GHOST FUCKED!

Poltergeist has enough of those epic blockbuster Spielberg moments, and enough of Hobe's skilled horror and humour techniques. As a result, Poltergeist is a damn great film. It starts of lighthearted, but there's a creepy sense that the shit is going to hit the fan. So we get som...( read more)e playful ghosts, then of course trees start attacking children. The family dynamic is believable and excellently played out. We actually feel that each parent has a different relationship with each child and handles them differently. This avoids cliche's of the "absent father" or "overbearing mother". Heather O'Rourke gives one of those child performances that leaves you stunned. Did she have any clue what the hell was going on? It doesn't matter, she rocked. Scary, but never terrifying, and it has one of the funniest images on film. A Hulk action figure riding a horse and tormenting the family. The ending goes a little too epic and special effects heavy.

I saw this and have yet to see what the big deal is. It didn't strike me as terribly scary and explores plenty of conventions that were done better in other (sometimes subsequent) movies. I got fed up with the slime effects and the hunt for the little kid. It's not that this is p...( read more)articularly bad, it just powerfully did not impress me.

Hooper and Spielberg hold our interest by observing the everyday rituals of this family so closely that, since the family seems real, the weird events take on a certain credibility by association. full review

Speaking of the guy peeling his face off, I went to school with him and he did have acne-sorry Marty (bad joke). I thought you were great in the movie(after dropping the chicken on the floor which was covered with maggots and had the steak crawl on the counter). He's the only actor not listed on the entry...Martin Casella. I just wanted to give you appropriate credit my friend.Dino

Why is it a PG in america? So kids are allowed to watch some guy have his face peeled off? America is ridiculous for it's ratings. Everything is a bloody R when it doesn't need to be and vice versa for PG's. Some of our 15 rated films are R in america. Lol, 17 year olds have to go in with a guardian for something which we only have to be 15 for...and not need a guardian.

I didn't think it was scary. To me it was too over the top. The scariest thing was the Midget lady her voice is so creppy.

I miss heather I think she was a beatiful little girl with so much talent, I also think that Dominique Dunne who played Dana, would have been a great actress too.

The clown isn't scary. The part where JoBeth is getting dragged on the wall was scary.
