i really liked this movie. aaron eckhart, i thought did a nice job in playing his role. i liked the plot. i think it is intreesting how some people can get so caught up on those types of things in history.
Sounds really boring. For some reason, the movies Aaron Eckhart's in seem to be mediocre. With the possible exception of "Neverwas" and "The Dark Knight."
What a bunch of boring dribble. It's a good sedative if you have having trouble sleeping at night - otherwise I'd pass on this one. First time I really couldn't stand Gwyneth.
Beautifully done. Jennifer Ehle is spectacular with Jeremy Northam. The other half of the film is rather lacking, but works.
Loved this movie, a cross between modern and 1800s, everything i could ask for in this movie, romance, rivalry, secrets, discoveries! It's a must see.
This movie is great! Its got some romance and a lot of twists and turns as you find out the mystery behind Ash's and LaMotte's lifes!
hmm, I think maybe it was the main guy i wasn't into that much, but i didnt like the love story between the two... However i did like the love story centuries before with the poets much better! Loved all the art in it though.
bonsoir j'ai le plaisir de chatter avec toi moi abdelali de maroc age 29 ans je cherche une femme qui ma changé ma vie bien ou assez bien pour construire un foyer mon msn et fouad-mourafik@hotmail.com
Nice film, but the book is much better (as usual). A few great quotes and lovely poems. The end annoyed me a bit..I wont say why, i dont want to give it away....
curious idea for a movie and well thought-out but i find that the acting and direction of the movie could have been more enticing.
Oh, how I absolutely adored this love story! It was marvellous! Maud and Roland, played by Gwyneth Paltrow and Aaron Eckhart, set out to find the truth about two Victorian poets who by the looks of it had a passionate secret relationship. We get to follow these two explorers as well as the two poets as the former unravel the latter's path. And as love grows in the 19th century, so does it in the 21st. The poets are played by Jeremy Northam (Happy, Texas, and An ideal husband) and Jennifer Ehle (Pride and Prejudice, 1995), both actors whom I absolutely adore and they certainly make no one disappointed in this one. Oh, and the dialogues! Those of you who have read my reviews previously know that I simply love the English language from that period of time. I guess what I am trying to say here is that you really, really should see this movie!
Very slow and somewhat boring, the story was interesting, and I think the actors did a good job. But nothing to grief if you never see it.
A wonderful story about two lovers and the great-great grand daughter(or something :P ) to her. Well anyway a beautiful romance story! So beautiful!
The present-day stuff is less compelling than the period love story between Jennifer Ehle and Jeremy Northam, but I still really enjoy the film in general.
Ehm, nothing special if you don´t like history or Gwyneth.. and I love both.. but not enough.. this one was just interesting, but not breathtaking..
The Victorian sub-plot is brilliantly done and very true to the book. The contemporary plot, however, made me quite annoyed cos it missed out (what I had felt were) important characters from the novel and there were parts that were all twisted and it seemed as if sometimes the director was totally unaware of the story he was basing this on. That said, it's still pretty good and likely seem great to anyone who hasn't read the book.
The present day story is good, but the journey into the past with Northam and Ehle is fantasitc. So many wonderful lines in this film!
I love the cast in this movie and the story was interesting. Jennifer Ehle has such grace and elegance I never tire of watching her perform. Beautiful movie.
I don't as a rule, like love stories, but this one was an exception. Maybe it's the poetry. Passionate, sensual, beautiful. I highly recommend it.
It was quite intereseting, actually. I rather disliked the fact that he was cheating on his wife, of course, but the way the story unraveled was well done and made it so that you kept wanting to watch the movie. Probably I wouldn't normally choose this type of movie as my weekend entertainment, but like I said, it was interesting and also well directed.
Although this film was very American in its attitude towards the English (we're not all upper class twits!) and there were some really silly plot devices (as if Roland would be allowed access to original hand-written documents like that without more security or safeguards!), I still really enjoyed the film. It was saved for me by a few things: the two gorgeous leading men; Jennifer Ehle's performance, the beautiful British scenery and the final scene between Ash and his daughter.
Great in argument and beauty. This movie is just wonderful.
The secret of a writer, waiting to be found by the only literary investigator (a musicologyst of literature) that could be a part of it...
The Jeremy Northam/Jennifer Ehle half of the story is pretty good, but the Paltrow/Eckhart half sucked.
