Danny Glover stars as Lt. Mike Harrigan, an LAPD detective baffled by his latest case, the ritualistic slaughter of several drug dealers by a devastating killer who leaves no traces. As Harrigan and his partners, Danny Archuletta (Ruben Blades), Leona Cantrell (Maria Conchita Alonso), and Jerry Lambert (Bill Paxton), try to figure out who or what killed the criminals, FBI investigator Stephen Keyes (Gary Busey) attempts to warn the team away from investigating further. When two of his team are killed in a particularly grisly way, Harrigan uncovers the truth -- their quarry is an alien creature that hunts humans for sport. Attracted to violence, its latest choice of prey is gun-toting Jamaican drug dealers. Keyes and his team know all about the nasty extraterrestrial and its bloody pastime because they've been studying it for ten years, and they've come up with a possible means of dispatching the beast. When that plan backfires, however, it comes down to Harrigan and an extremely irritated otherworldly foe, slugging it out in a rooftop confrontation. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Not as good as the original but the urban location, original casting of some great character actors, new look predator, new weaponry and amazing take your breath away action with an excellent ending leaves you wanting more hunting action. Top notch visuals and effects with some lovely over the top cliched characters all add up to a film just out of the 80's but clearly living the dream hehe. Plus you've got 'Private Hudson' incarnated again (he's also come back as a vampire in 'Near Dark') to take on predators ;) A rip roaring violent, bloody and foul mouthed masterpiece that is criminally underrated. -

Wow. How far can you fall in between sequels? That's a question many people ask, but apparently the people who made this film decided not to make it into a question but a game. The first film wasn't exactly super clever, but it was a fun movie. This movie strips away almost all of the thrills of the first turning it into what is essentially a slasher film with an invisible alien. And just like a slasher flick, there are hundreds of fakeouts, AND IT WILL DRIVE YOU INSANE. Stay away from this one, it isn't even fun to make fun of. -

This sequel amps up the gore, and some of the cheesiness, but it seems more muddled, illogical, and not as fun. Which, as far as being illogical goes, says a lot considering the plot of the first one. With this one, the Predator doesn't really have a very clearly focused goal, which makes it seem a little more random. It certainly makes for more violence and gore, which isn't always bad, but a little more thought would have been nice. It's great to see Gary Busey do his thing, but there again, the writing leaves a lot to be desired and things could have been handled better. The ending is kinda cool, what with the prize Glover gets, but it doesn't quite top the ending to the first one. I do like the effects though. They were awesome in the first one, and they're pretty good here too, The Predator once again looks crazy and freaky, and Kevin Peter Hall does a great job playing the itular character (again). It's a big step down, and I do have a soft spot for it (I like the train scene and the insanity with the gangs getting slaughtered), but it's not really a good movie per se. It is fun and entertaining though, and there's some good humor, and sometimes, that's all you really need. -

John Mctiernan created something totaly jaw dropping with Predator. Predator remains one of the best Sci Fi action Horror films to come along in a long time. So obviously, the filmmakers would be making a sequel. Following a solid film like Predator is no easy feet, and one reason for that is because of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger made Predator a memorable thrills ride. One other thing, the first film had a couple of terrific action stars, perfect for the parts. Predator 2 takes a whole different direction than the first film, and now the predator hunts the streets of L.A where gangs rule the streets and crime is rampant. Predator 2 is an average, barely passable sequel to the awesome Predator. With the absence of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Predator 2 falls a little flat and ends up being an average film. However despite its flaws, there are a lot of tense action sequences that blend horror and gore much like the first one, but because of it's somewhat weak cast, Predator 2 lacks the power and originality of the first film. For the die-hard fans of the first, this film will probably most likely disappoint you. Danny Glover is the best actor in the film and he does what he can to keep the film going as the Predator hunts the streets of L.A. Predator 2 lacks the punch of the first film, but overall is a passable sequel. The cast involved are decent at best, nothing special, and like I've mentioned, Danny Glover is the stronger actor in this film. Predator 2 is fun, but it does the lack the punch of the first film. Just don't expect anything superb, before watching this film, go in with average expectations, and you may not be disappointed. -

Los Angles 1997. Gang warfare rages between rival drug gangs with the police caught in the middle. During one shoot out the police led by Mike Harrington (Glover) trap 6 men in a building. Before they can act the 6 are violently killed and stung up by an unseen attacker. As more armed gangs are attacked and killed in similarly unexplained ways the police realise that a new element is attempting to muscle in on the existing gangs. Glover and his team begin to hunt the new gang until they are joined by a FBI unit who seem to know more about the gang than they let on. This follows on from the first movie well - not a forced sequel picking up from the last, but a different film that ties it's action in with previous events. None of the original stars return but the cast is full of name stars - Gary Busey, Danny Glover, Bill Paxton, Ruben Blades, Maria Conchita Alonso. The plot is basically the same as the first - an unseen attacker attacks armed forces in the jungle - except here it's in the urban jungle, and it's actually pretty good. The plot has the core of the predator doing battle, but now has another string of the FBI/Gary Busey conspiracy which makes the film much more interesting. However all this is window dressing to the action scenes. Unfortunately this doesn't have as much slow tension as the first film, but rather has long raging gun battle throughout - this does tend to bring it down to the level of a standard action movie but it does have some standout scenes that lift the film. The strobing fight on the subway is the most effective but the battles between police, gangs and predator are also very well handled. Overall the action is great but could have benefited from more slow, tension building. That said this sequel doesn't make the mistake that other "creature-feature" sequels have made - this keep the Predator hidden even though we already know what it looks like. For the most part the Predator moves cloaked and we only really seek the consequences of it's actions rather than the whole beast revealed. This keeps a certain mystery and helps build a certain amount of tension. The final battle between hero and Predator is not quite as good as Schwarzenegger's confrontation with the alien, but is still a good finish to the film. It's easy to believe that Arnie could use the jungle and stealth to defeat the alien - but Danny Glover (Mr "3 days from retirement"?) taking on the Predator in what is essentially an extended fist fight? Sorry - it's fun to watch but a little hard to believe. The performances are good, Glover gets to be a Riggs type rather than a Murtagh/retirement case. Paxton plays the energetic side kick and continues his killer-alien experience that he started in Aliens. Even Busey, now nearly completely bereft of his star status and wallowing in video thrillers, is good here as a shadowy FBI agent. Sad to think that he got so good at this role that he got regularly typecast and is now doing things like Lethal Tender, Universal Soldier 2 and many others I've tried hard to forget. The rest of the cast do well as fodder for the predator but it's really all about the action. The film contains some nice touches that develop the Predator in the same way that Aliens took a step along from Alien. The feeling that the Predator has hunted across all worlds (including the aforementioned alien) is cool as well as some other things that you get from the ending that I wouldn't spoil. But the attempt to give the Predator a sense of mercy is a bit forced. In the first it wouldn't kill an unarmed person, i.e. it always wanted sport. Here this extends to it sparing the life of an armed police woman because she is pregnant, that just seemed a little out of character to me, but I understand why they did it. Overall this is a solid action movie with plenty of good scenes. When compared to the first movie it nearly holds it's own but it lacks the sense of fear and being hunted that the first brought - this has tension but the first film have tension by the bucket. Hold on your ass. -

I'll be honest, I actually really like this for some reason. Sure, Danny Glover is a terrible adversary for the Predator and it makes no sense why he succeeds. However, it's just so much fun and and the Predator is so unbelievably cool. This really had some strong visuals, the LA scene was amazing and unique to what they were going for. The supporting cast also works well and the story is actually pretty interesting. I'd say if this had a better lead I'd like it almost as much as the original. -

First off, I'll say that this film is actually quite good, but is not as good as the first movie b\c it definitely had a lot to measure up to from the 1987 hit. The first one was brilliant with its claustrophobic atmosphere and interesting characters that were very cool and made us feel a slight pang of loss as they got dispatched by the Predator. The atmosphere was one of the key elements in the first movie, and it also gave Arnie a real challenge for a change (Whose blood didn't get pumping when Arnie pulled his 'Heart of Darkness' boyscout tricks in a all out fight with the Predator?). With all of that said, I'd like to say that I really like this movie. Though there are some kinks in it as well as some bad dialogue, it is overall a pretty exciting movie. I think it's safe to say that there is quite a bit more bloodshed this time around, which is good and bad. It is good b\c the action scenes are, simply put, awesome. The war between the cops, the drug dealers and the Predator is always no-holds-barred, and though some of it is definitely Hollywood (I didn't know drug dealers had access to military weaponry?) there are a lot of realistic and also daring scenes (the subway shootout is definitely one of them). The bad part of the excessive action is that there really isn't as much tension in the stalking process this time around, it doesn't quite have the build up when Arnie and his troops were being stalked in the jungle. However, there are still quite a few tense moments as well as good scares in this film especially since the Predator is one frightening looking SOB! The best part that I loved about this movie was the way they portrayed the Predator. When I was a kid, I just saw him as a mindless killing machine, but this now, after watching it again recently, I saw how they portrayed him with an ethical code of honor with whom he kills and how (no one that he considers a real threat). I notice his favorite method is to methodically kill everyone in a group, by any means necessary and then spare the bravest or toughest opponent for a one-on-one battle. I think it was genius how the creature stalked Harrigan after witnessing his heroics in the beginning and how the movie never blatantly pointed it out (via someone to explain it all to the audience). Definitely an interesting idea, which is rare for a sequel. The acting is pretty good, overall. Danny Glover did a good job with his role as Harrigan as well as Bill Paxton (who, by the way, has one of the coolest pre-death scenes ever). The dialogue lacks in some areas, but is made up with the solid directing and pulse pounding score by Alan Silvestri. The script could have used some fine tuning, but the action never lets up and the movie, as a whole, is paced very well. All in all, this is a worthy sequel to one of Arnie's best. I don't understand why so many people have a negative attitude about this movie, despite the flaws mentioned above. I think the filmmakers put a little more thought into the average action film and it shows. Overall, this is an entertaining movie to watch on a quiet Friday night after work, with a nice cold beer and a hot pizza at your disposal. In the end this film is a underrated gem. -

In "Predator 2," the Predator comes to the city and starts killing people. Danny Glover stars in this underwhelming sequel as a cop who has a major attitude and who thinks that the workings of the Predator are the working of major gangs in the city. The Predator finds his prey by means of infrared vision, and anyone he finds he will kill. I'm surprised that "Predator 2" is getting as high rankings as it's getting. I thought it was a decent sequel, but not in any way great. It seems like at times in this movie that the gangs are the main enemy instead of the Predator himself. The special effects aren't as good as they were in the first movie except for the detail of the Predator, which were pretty good. It seems like most people think "Predator 2" was a good sequel, but I thought the movie was boring when compared to the first, it didn't have good acting, and that it wasn't any good until the final showdown between the Predator and Danny Glover. If you liked "Predator," I would recommend renting "Predator 2." But since most people like it, you might want to go ahead and buy it. NOTE: That was my Amazon review from the year 2001. I usually like movie sequels, unlike most people, and I love Danny Glover, but this is one of the first movies that comes to mind when someone asks me what are some of the worst movie sequels of all time. -

Predator introduced one of the biggest bad-ass villains in movie history squaring off against one of the biggest bad-ass heroes in movie history, Arnold Schwarzenneger. It's only natural for Hollywood to make a sequel to a movie as awesome as Predator is. Unfortunately, Predator 2 offers none of the fun of its predecessor. It takes place ten years after the jungle incident, in a futuristic Los Angeles overrun by street gangs. These gangs have cartoon personalities, typical for 80s B-movies. They're extremely annoying. In my opinion, they're too easy prey for the predator, and thus, it takes the fun out of the movie. Most of Predator 2 plays like a bad version of Aliens, complete with a team of agents disguising themselves in foil suits to trap the alien so they can study it. When will these guys learn? And to make matters worse, Arnold has been replaced by Danny Glover, whom I like as an actor, but here, all he does is yell and scream at his superiors amidst talking to himself about how he is going to personally kill the predator. The action isn't particularly well filmed either. One particular scene in a subway train has so many flashing lights that it is more likely to induce a seizure rather than excitement. Other action scenes are poorly staged, haphazardly edited, or just outright boring. Ultimately, Predator 2 is completely void of any imagination. This film is very by-the-numbers, copying other alien flicks that came before it. The only thing worth mentioning is the now legendary shot of the Predator's trophy room that showcases an Alien skull. I can only imagine the excitement an Alien/Predator fan would have felt seeing that skull. It would probably have made up for having to sit through an otherwise dull, unentertaining sequel. -

The predator returns to stalk supercop Danny Glover on the streets of a suburban warzone while a federal special ops team try to track down and capture the creature. Relocating the predator story to a humid city environment in the middle of a gang war was actually a pretty strong idea, but the execution falls far short of the promising concept. Much of the first half of the film is a hang over from trashy 80s cop films, full of posturing stereotypes who come across as little more than foul-mouthed, trigger happy thugs because it lacks the tongue in cheek humour of the first film. The supporting cast are without exception awful, and the cinematography tacky and cheap looking. Add some poor production design (the predator ship looks rubbish) and very dated effects and we have a typical sequel in that a great idea is dragged down to the level of a straight to DVD release. It's not a complete waste of time;it starts reasonably well and the sequence where they try to capture the predator is decent, although it's a transparent and hugely inferior rip off of the first encounter scene in Aliens. The predator is still a very cool creation, and seeing a Geiger alien skull in their ship probably caused every sci-fi nerd who saw it to spontaneously ejaculate. In fact the much maligned AVP films are both rather a lot better than this, and probably saved the Predator franchise from a similar fate to Starship Troopers'. -

Danny Archuleta: A pro would have split the moment the action started. More than one we would have seen them. Whoever did this waited until the last second, took out six guys armed with machine guns by hand, then got by us. Maybe we should give him a job. Put him on the payroll. Danny Glover may have been too old for Gibson's shit, but when it comes to taking on interstellar hunters in the midst of the gang wars during the hottest of summers in Los Angeles, you damn well better bet he's game for it. The predator has returned. This time he is hunting in LA, amidst gang wars against the cops. Danny Glover is a tough cop who encounters the predator, and the two begin a sort of duel. You also have this sweet supporting cast that has the always great Bill Paxton and crazy Gary Busey. Now, this movie isn't trying to be the best ever, it is a sequel to an 80s monster/action flick, but it makes the best of the premise, complete with some new cool features for the predator, and some inventive action/gore stuff. It even has the perfect kind of ending to maintain the predator legacy. King Willie: You can't see the eyes of the demon, until him come callin'. The film is good enough at providing action, gore, special effects, and some goofy fun. [Harrigan runs through an old woman's apartment, chasing the Predator] Lieutenant Mike Harrigan: It's all right! I'm a cop! Ruth: I don't think he gives a shit! -

Everything about it kicks ass. It has great characters, action scenes, good script, score etc. This does not. Period. Danny Glover is nothing compared to "The Guvernator" when it comes to being a leading man of a action movie. He's good as a sidekick, yelling "I'm too old for this shit" ala "Lethal Weapon" but in this one he is most of the time just amusing. And damn Bill Paxton sucked in this one... Like mentioned earlier, "Predator 2" lacks all of the elements that made the first one an instant classic. Avoid it and instead, watch Arnie and his posse rumble in the jungle... -
