Although these three OAVs (original animation videos) were released years apart--and years after the original Project A-Ko feature--they all share a single plot: the battle between A-Ko, who po...( read more  read more... )ssesses super-powers, and the super-rich, mecha-building B-Ko for the affections of the infantile C-Ko. (The names of the characters play off the Japanese equivalent of "Girl A, Girl B" to designate extras in a script.) In "Cinderella Rhapsody," A-Ko falls for the dashing motorcyclist Kei. B-Ko wants whatever A-Ko wants, and they're soon fighting over Kei and C-Ko. But Kei only has eyes for C-Ko. In "Final," C-Ko turns out to be a long-lost alien princess whose people come to reclaim her, but the story remains underdeveloped. C-Ko leaves with the alien fleet but turns up at A-Ko's door the next morning and announces, "I came back." Viewers may wonder why everyone is so gaga about a whiny case of arrested development like C-Ko, whether she's a princess or not. In Japan, the pursuit of C-Ko is seen as a manifestation of the intense, platonic friendships among high school students, rather than lesbian attraction, but a weird sexuality pervades the stories, which include androgynous bodybuilders in dresses. All three episodes are silly enough to make Tenchi Muyo! sound like Nietzsche. Rated 13 and up for brief nudity, occasional sexual humor, and violence. --Charles Solomon

An uncultivated and fanatical anime of its kind; there is nothing like it.

Director Katsuhiko Nishijima with the help of Tomoko Kawasaki and Yuji Moriyama craft one of the most beloved Japanese school girls around that can't ever be forgotten.

Synopsis: A school girl name A...( read more)iko (A-ko) has school battles against a bully name Biko (B-ko) over the honor of being the "BBF" to the loudmouth brat Ciko (C-ko), but in the midst of the peer pressures, an alien species invades the city thus kidnapping the adorable Ciko and having Aiko and Biko teaming up to help save her, the city and possibly the world.

Probably one of the weirdest Japanese animations I have ever seen, but most definitely one of my all time favorites. The animation is tremendous with some great action scenes and out of the ordinary story telling; school fights, lesbians, teen drama, transsexuals, invasion, military action, superhuman ability, cat fights etc. it's all provided in this extraordinary cartoon-like extravaganza.

Both the English dub and Japanese language is worth the listen when watching this frenzy chaotic mess that'll have you laughing with its combined comedy factor, and the plot is so warped you can't help but look at it oddly funny.

Although there are countless of great Japanese animations out there today that you can find in just about any commercial store, Purojekuto A-ko is one of its abnormally finest of its time.

Project A-ko - daughter of Superman and Wonder Women.

This is an awful cartoon, but it's really too bizarre to not enjoy on some level.

Although the later sequels (3 and 4 especially) don't really make any sense, and left me scratching my head, this remains probably my favorite anime. Everything moves at a kinetic pace, the bond between characters remains genuine, and the animation is really superb.

Probably the first anime parody film ever made, this thing cracks on everything from Harlock to Hokuto and Macross to Yamato, Its insane. But its not just a parody film it has a pretty action packed story to go with it.

Sixteen years after a mysterious meteorite leveled Graviton...( read more) City, the rebuilt metropolis faces an even greater threat to it?s architecture: two quarrelling schoolgirls whose superhuman powers threaten to tear the city apart. A-ko and her ditzy sidekick C-ko are the new kids at Graviton High School for Girls, and they ought to be pretty popular, given A-ko?s superhuman strength and speed. But things turn ugly when evil-genius classmate B-ko decides she wants C-ko for herself. Can A-ko defeat her rival?s army of giant mechs? How about B-ko?s Akagiyama supersuit, the world?s only flying, missile-launching bikini? Oh, and did we mention the huge alien warship heading straight for the downtown shopping district? Whatever the outcome, you can be sure of one thing: Not much of Graviton City will be left standing!

its totally crazy and totally awesome. If you know your anime, you?ll spot quite a few cameos, be they human, alien, or machine. You really need to know your anime to fully appreciate this film, but I like to think the zaniness is enough for those not in the know to appreciate. I don?t know if this can still be purchased, Central Park Media lost their distribution a few years ago, but I don?t know if they shut down or are just operating low-key at the moment.

A hilarious and wicked satire on giant robots, space opera and other science fiction anime as well as one of the best comedy films to ever come out of Japan. Required viewing for any serious anime fans!
