I loved this movie, thew acting really surprised, the acting really pulls in2 the movie even if you are lost at first and find it hard 2 follow, the acting is so worth watching. If you appreciate good acting, give this movie a shot.

Gwyneth Paltrow is nothing short of amazing, this should have been her oscar winning film not shakespeare in love.
Dysfunctional families are ten a penny in Hollywood films but somehow I'm always coming back for more. Gwyneth Paltrow owns this film, she's an utter triumph, the e...( read more)motions her character Catherine goes through are played with brilliance, from mourning the loss of her father, the guilt she holds over herself for her father, the possible disintegration of her own mind, and the beginning of a love felt for Gyllenhaal, Paltrow eases through.
Speaking of Gyllenhaal perhaps my ownly fault with the film, he felt a little miscast, a math geek? yeah sure. Hopkins as I 've never seen him before, mind-blowing...crazy is always good on the big screen. Overall a well acted, scripted and directed picture.
And you know what I left it with a new appreciation of math.

Generally smart and very well-acted, but both the viewer and the filmmakers are confused by it. The filmmakers were not entirely sure about how best to tell or finish the story, and their confusion inevitably transfers to the audience.

A sensitive and intellectual movie, dealing with family dynamics, living in the shadow of parental fame, bereavement, sibling rivalry and also how female genius is largely unrecognised in society.

Pretty good movie. Don't think it is for a lot of people though. I enjoyed it. Liked the story of the bond between the daughter and father. It's a hard movie to follow. If your not paying close attention you will be lost. Anthony Hopkins gives another great performance. But there isn't a role this man can't fulfill. Really surprised by Gwyneth Paltrow. Her character was kinda dark, and I thought she pulled it off amazingly. It's a very intense movie. She questions her sanity because she has inherited so much of who her father is, that she is scared that his illness is something else she will inherit, if not already. The movie keeps you wondering the same thing til the end. It wasn't a "must see" film for me. But my curiosity got the best of me. It is hard for me to pass up any movie, not judge it til I have seen it for myself. So I am glad I didn't pass this one up.

A brilliant performace by Anthony Hopkins but the story does not hold its weight and the ending is frustrating, to me at least.

now im glad i decided to bought this one, as i have no clue at all about this before i bought it, my only expectation that crossed in my mind was i need something light but not cheap to become my lullaby movie, so i take my chance with this because i think paltrow will provide th...( read more)e lightness and hopkins will provide the quality, and gyllenhaal will provide both.,
but what did i got? a really good movie, it's far exceed my expectation.,
this movie is full of heart, it's not romance movie, but it's much more romantic than most romance movie, it has a good little comedy, it is a thriller, but the extraordinary one.,
overall, this is a simple movie, but everything is just right at its place, not less, and not too much..

I bet math fanatics would really enjoy this. All said and done though I felt like it was really....... girly. Hmmmm. Maybe a bad description since I usually like romantic comedies but this one was really lame.
