This good-natured college comedy launched the film careers of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, who have since enjoyed a cult following with their subsequent features (Super Troopers and Club...( read more  read more... ) Dread) and even made inroads to Hollywood (director Jay Chandrasekhar helmed the big-screen Dukes of Hazzard movie). Here the five Lizards play a quintet of clueless college guys pursuing women with varying degrees of success; the humor is broad without tipping too heavily into gross territory, and several moments are laugh-out-loud funny, especially the group's riffs on independent theater, and a missing phone number digit. Made for an astronomically small amount (and funded largely with credit cards), Puddle Cruiser was promoted largely through a screening tour of colleges, which is covered in the disc's accompanying featurette, "Rodeo Clowns." All five Broken Lizard members are also featured on some very amusing commentary tracks. --Paul Gaita

A decent college romance comedy that is surprisingly more in the former. Seeing the young and talented members of Broken Lizard in their humble origins is, in itself, great to watch. The plot is thin and unlike their later efforts, tries hard to include all the troupe but ends up...( read more) with bizarre sketchy subplots. There's no witty dilalogue, and there are only a few glimpses of the Broken Lizard humour prevalent in their later offerings. It's excellent first time film making, but only in retrospect. There are some wonderful moments, the character of Freak Reaky certainly needs a resurrection. It's probably best as a stand alone watch inspired by curiosity, rather than a sit down laugh out loud film.

Super Troopers is still the best imo. You could tell that Broken Lizard had great potential from this movie, but it was never quite as engaging. I would only recommend if you are a die hard fan and even then it might not be that entertaining.

I was hesitant to even watch this early film from Broken Lizard, because older first films tend to suck. It certainly feels like something some friends threw together in college - an ultra-low budget flick with some really horrible acting (Most of the main cast does a fine job,...( read more) with the exception of Steve Lemme, who unfortunately was the main character). But it also contains all the same kinds of humor found in BL's other films. Not quite up to the level of their later offerings, but funny nonetheless.

Very humble and rather mediocre beginnings of the Broken Lizard troupe. It had its moments, but they were few and far between. The main girl was not a very good actress, but I have no objections to watching Steve Lemme for an hour and a half.

The first movie from the Super Trooper guys, it wasnt as good as those two movies but it was a good starting point showing these guys are halrious and can write a good comedy movie.

You can see the first glimpses of greatness to come from Broken Lizard in this film. Too bad that greatness is never displayed in this movie. Go check out Super Troopers and Beer Fest when you are done with this one.
