Note: Can there be anything more wonderful than a sight of a gorgeous Isabelle Adjani all wrapped up in a blood? The answer is: of course not. It's one delicious nightmare to fall down into.

And yes, it is as brilliant and as arousing as they say on the cover. They're not lying...( read more) this time.

This film should be considered a classic, but instead, I'm afraid, it's considered completely underwatched, underappreciated, and underrated, and it's deserving of so much more!

To some extent the film uses Dumas' book as little more than to provide reference points to tell a tragic story of love, and is all the better for it. A warning though - the opening depiction of the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre is very gory.

Historical drama of epic proportions, sumptuous yet gritty, held together by fine performances from Isabelle Adjani, maidenly, distant, yet passionate and Virna Lisi as the villainous Catherine de Medici. Labyrinthine yet compellingly flamboyant.

Hauntingly beautiful and amazing actors. Especially Charles, portrayed by Anglade, is - well, crazy to say the least. Heart wrenching ending but because of the gore it may not be for everyone.

The romance could have been fleshed out a bit more (no pun intended, there was enough flesh to be seen) but it was a good movie overall. If a bit gory.
