Great Movie with Tom Selleck. Quigley wanted to do the right thing. He did his job but not for slaughter. He killed that deserved killing, but he did not believe in slaughtering the innocent. This is a man of high principle.
This isn't a great film. I don't care. It's perfect for what it is. Selleck is the perfect cowboy. I wish more Westerns were being made so he could play more roles like this. Setting it in Australia is a nice twist, and the villain is great.
Hmmm.... Not bad for a Western... I mean, I know it is not your typical Western, so that is probably why I liked it more then most Westerns. And No! Alan Rickman was not the reason I thought this movie was good! I would have still liked it even if he wasn't in it! Now, would I have given it the time of day if he were not in it? Probably... I mean I do watch Westerns on Saturday mornings (like at 5 or 6) with my Dad, and I do enjoy watching them. Some Westerns bore me, yes; but then again a lot of movies bore me! lol
fantastic totally underrated movie. Aan Rickman is a perfect villain. Human and believable but with a refreshing comic twist. Selleck did a great job with this as well. Really moving picture
Alan in a western, refreshing to say the least. It has its good points and bad points. I love the fact that it brings the attention of the audience to native peoples.
i dont like tom selleck, and there was nothing great about this movie...but the scene where the woman is screaming with the little indian baby because of what happened with her own baby in the past was heartwrenching!!!
Quigley Down under is a charming if eye opening movie about the aboriginal oppression in Australia. The Humor, and the drama all combine wonderfully to a wonderfully well made film that all should see!!!
Rousing western with Tom Selleck as american sharpshooter Matthew Quigley, who comes to Australia under the false pretense of hunting wild dogs for bad guy Alan Rickman. But once Quigley realizes he was brought in to kill aborigines, he decides to fight back against Rickman and his desperadoes. A different type of western but still a very good one. Selleck is awesome as Quigley and he carries one of the longest rifles I have ever seen. And trust me, he is bad ass with it. Alan Rickman once again is dead on as the bad guy, who is a pretty good shot himself. And Laura San Giacomo is a hoot as Crazy Cora, a woman Quigley saves by accident. A good fun movie. Oh, and a great music score to boot.
Crazy Cora: Don't worry, on a new job it's quite common for things not to go well at first
This is not the greatest western by any means, but it is a very interesting concept: an American cowboy in the Australian outback. It is still pretty watchable, and Selleck being heroic works pretty well. Plus it has Laura San Giacomo. I think people who like westerns cannot go wrong here.
This is a great cowboy film. Tom Selleck was funny, and made the plot interesting. He falls in love with this crazy girl though. My only problem with this film is that Alan Rickmans character dies at the end. I think that Quigley, the main character, should have died in his place, but then it wouldnt have been a westen, so whatever. But Alan Rickman made the movie funny, and also he played a very great villian, like all ways.
Selleck makes for a solid cowboy hero, but Alan Rickman practically nicks this movie out from under his nose. The unusual setting, decent performances by the leads, and confident direction by Simon Wincer give this one a sheen of respectability.
