In the middle of a raging thunderstorm, a traveling circus accidentally leaves behind some very precious cargo--a baby zebra. The gangly little foal is rescued by horse farmer Nolan Walsh, who takes him home to his young daughter Channing. Once a champion thoroughbred trainer, Walsh has given up horse training for a quiet life with Channing on their modest Kentucky farm. The little zebra, or “Stripes,” as Channing calls him, is soon introduced to the farm’s misfit troupe of barnyard residents, led by a grumpy Shetland Pony named Tucker and Franny, a wise old goat who keeps the family in line. The group is joined by Goose, a deranged big-city pelican who’s hiding out in the sticks until the heat dies down in Jersey. Bird-brained rooster Reggie keeps everyone alert with his crack-of-dawn crowing and general hysteria, and the un-aptly named bloodhound Lightning keeps a lazy eye on goings-on at the farm--in between naps. The Walsh farm borders the Dalrymple Estate, where highly skilled thoroughbreds train to compete for horse racing’s top honor, the ultra-prestigious Kentucky Open. From the first moment Stripes lays eyes on the track, he’s hooked--he knows that if he could just get the chance, he could leave all those other horses in the dust. What he doesn’t know is--he’s not exactly a horse. But with characteristic zeal, he devotes himself to training for the big time, with a little help from Tucker, who has coached a host of champion racehorses in the past. Channing has a similar ambition--she longs to train as a jockey, but her protective father refuses to let her compete in the potentially dangerous sport. But her father can’t ignore her enthusiasm (or her stubbornness) for long, and she convinces him to come out of retirement to train her and Stripes for the Kentucky Open. The neighboring Estate is run by the ruthless queen of the Kentucky racing circuit, the incredibly wealthy and exceptionally coldhearted Clara Dalrymple. Stripes constantly battles the ridicule of the Estate’s thoroughbreds-in-training, led by spoiled bully Trenton’s Pride, who taunts him relentlessly about his lack of breeding and--unusual appearance. As he thrusts himself into a world of elite athletes, intense competition and enormous stakes, Stripes must prove he’s fast enough and tough enough to run with the big horses if he wants to land in the winner’s circle at the legendary Kentucky Open.
Them little fly/been things totally cracked me up. Reminded me alot of the babe in them ways. the insects where like babes version of the mice. very family film with a few adult jokes that made it really funny at times.
although really realy predictable it was an okay film.
hysterical! we all loved it in the theater and there was something for everyone with humor, story line, etc. Great story suitable for many age groups. :)
03-14-08 --A zebra that thinks he's a racehorse. Oh How Disney! Even though this isn't a Disney film. I thought this movie may be animated but no. All live action animal speaking fun. Kinda like Milo & Otis but with horses and stuff. It was allright as far as children movies go.
One word describes all about this movie and that is "Babe." The only difference is that the lead is a zebra. Also, the storyline is very thoughtless, everything is copied! And I just u can say they copied the zebra off Planet Earth. lol. Even Hayden didnt help this movie, it fact she makes it worse. Her acting is so bad in this one that I have no clue why the director chose her. Of course she is a better actress now by still she makes THIS movie crappier than it is. The only good thing from the movie is Snoop Dogg being a Snoop Dog.
I loved Hayden Panettiere in this movie. She & Mandy Moore (especially in "A Walk To Remember") remind me so much of my best friend. The all-star voice cast works to great comic effect in this inspiring fantasy.
This was an awesome movie! It made me cry in a good way! I absolutley love this movie! It was so good! It made me laugh cry and sit on the edge of my seat when he would race and hope he would win! Awesome movie!
This was a good movie and it was pretty funny too. I think Frankie Muniz did a really good job at portraying the voice of Stripes and it really suited the character as well.
I must confess, this one suprised me, in a good way. At first I thought that it was just another kids movie with talking animals, whit a lame story.
It was lame, but that is something inevitable in such kind of movies. However, the funny moments compensate that negative side. The two gross flies are awsome and so it was the pelicane called goose.
