A masterful piece of tearjerking contemplation of human nature when confronting the angels of death and love! Superb direction and bravura performances!
Fantastic directorial debut by Alison Eastwood. This is one of the most moving and touching movie i have seen in a long while. Great performances by Kevin Bacon and Marcia Gay Harden make this movie even more wonderful and emotional. Strongly recommended to everyone...
Its a good film, very intence ,it can capt your attention in the whole movie but stills miss a final ingredient to become a film to remember...at the end its the same old message that says ;whatever it happens life goes on
Here is a story worth telling, emotions worth investing in, and lives worth caring for.
Eastwood's directorial debut gained a lot from her father's talent, and fortunately used two of his best stars in roles that require an outward expression of complex, internalized emotion.
This is a quietly great film of letting down your guard and embracing the seemingly impossible in order to make you a better person.
Devoted railroad engineer Tom Stark (Kevin Bacon, Mystic River) is at a crossroads. His lovely wife Megan (Marcia Gay Harden, Pollack) has survived two bouts with cancer, though now it's terminal. Because of her fragile health, their marriage has been stale for some time, and it's about to be seriously tested with the arrival of a 9-year-old boy.
Davey Danner's (Miles Heizer, ER) mother has just committed suicide. She was killed when the train that Stark was operating smashed into her car. As a result, the precious boy is placed in a foster home, though he is determined to confront the man responsible for not stopping the train. Meanwhile, Megan has decided to leave Tom for awhile, even though she has minimal time remaining. When Davey shows up, Megan takes a liking to him and says she'll stay if Davey stays. The conflicted Tom has no choice, and little does he realize how much of a profound effect Davey will bring to the home. Eastwood's debut as a director is more than impressive. It's clear she's learned much from her father, and visually tells this story clearly and eloquently. Bacon's searing work - coupled with the simple yet thoroughly effective conclusion. It's actually nice to see Marcia Gay Harden not relegated to the role of The Wife or The Mother, and get to sink her teeth into a full-bodied character. And to the extent that the character stands apart from the ludicrous circumstances into which the film throws her, Gay Harden's performance is effective, her excitement at having someone to love almost registering as an actual human emotion. Miles Heizer, who has a hefty part as Davey is also good. "Rails & Ties" is in some ways the serious-drama.
Here's a great movie with a remarkable story plot about human nature. Love. Bond. Loss. Death. Life. These are all essential within the story of two individuals, a man and a young boy brought together by a certain loss. Great cast. Fantastic work by Alison Eastwood. A must-see.
wow. this was a very touching and emotional ride. I normally can't stand marcia gay harden, but she gave a wonderful performance and of course kevin bacon, well nuff said. The young boy in this film is amazing, you can't help but fall in love with him.
A fine debut for Clint Eastwood's daughter Alison Eastwood in this drama movie with great performance by Kevin Bacon, Marcia Gay Harden and Miles Heizer. Not so many teardripping (in fact no one) scenes but still it touch you, particular the ending. So enjoy.
wow, great movie! Alright Alison Eastman. Marcia Gay Harden is fantastic. Kevin Bacon is Kevin Bacon. I think he is a good actor and I've liked him for a long time. The kid did great!! Good job. Would like to see more of him.
Clint's daughter Alison Eastwood have directed this movie i think its her debut aswell. She have made a pretty good emotional drama starring Kevin Bacon. Not quite Kevin's best effort here but overall a decent flick about tragedy and hopes in life.
Without the names, this would have been rejected by Lifetime. I think the main problem here is the script. It's essentially a collection of maudlin scenes featuring wooden dialogue. The next issue is the director, who really makes no attempt to salvage the script, and is only directing it because her dad is a legend. The icing on the cake is the kid actor - one of the worst I've seen. Did not believe him for one second. Sadly, even Bacon seemed lost half of the time. Like he was just phoning in a favor for his pal Clint. Harden is the only redeemer, but if you're not a hardcore fan of her or Bacon, stay far away.
