Raising Arizona Reviews and Ratings

This early Coen Brothers comedy may not have aged well in many regards but is still hilarious to watch. That's mostly thanks to the funny performances of the quirky characters played by the Coen's usual suspects, wonderfully odd camera work and great soundtrack. The most pleasant... ...( read more )

Fantastic at first, but I really think the bounty hunter subplot isn't funny in the slightest and the movie's final-hour focus on him really drags it down. Still, the unmistakable Evil Deadian energies here keep Raising Arizona mostly madcap,

One of several movies for your inev... ...( read more )

A more Raimi-influenced Coen Bros pull out all the stops in this comedy crime caper masterpiece. (Yeah, I said it. Much more in your face than Fargo.)

Not a vintage comedy from the Brothers Coen, but enjoyable in spots.

Remember back when Nicolas Cage made good movies? I don't either, it's been that long ago. Luckily, in 1987 he was still making good ones, as Raising Arizona attests to.

Great casting, hilarious story and hilarious interaction. You can easily tell the Coen bros. had their han... ...( read more )

although this flick got a little uncomfortable at times and is not one of the coen's better films, it is clever and different and absolutely hilarious at parts. a very different comedy with a solid performance by cage.

Raising Arizona, the Coens' follow-up to their excellent debut Blood Simple, is an explosively clever and riotously funny exploration of fertility, homemaking, and the working class in the prisons and trailer parks of the desert southwest. H.I. McDunnough (Nicolas Cage) meets loc... ...( read more )

Back before i realized Cage's eccentricities were insane arrogance instead of just talent. "I found myself driving past convenience stores... that weren't on the way home."

kitchy, corny, knee-slappin', aw-chucks americana (hardly better'n "hee haw") is a little grating to the sensibilities...okay, it's downright condescending, bitter to the extreme and tiresome at length, but there is a ersatz DNA strand of hope played in yer basic fucked-up, every... ...( read more )

"I tried to stand up and fly straight, but it wasn't easy with that sumbitch Reagan in the White House. I dunno. They say he's a decent man, so maybe his advisors are confused."

Raising Arizona is now considered a classic gem from currently-renowned filmmaking...

I usually dislike Nicolas Cage greatly, however I actually thought he fit his role perfectly.

It's the Coen brothers, what can I say? Entertaining as always, not one of their best but nevertheless a great and funny film.

One of the few movies Nicolas Cage is actually good in. Over the top maybe but damn hilarious all the same.

A very funny film which plays on the wacky side of the Coen brothers and Cage. A truly comical film which is almost cartoony in it's ways.

Si vous avez aimé No contry for o... ...( read more )

the best part of this movie is one kid carving "fart" into the wall - other than that, it's complete shit.

Though the film lost me a little with the bounty-hunter, the rest of the film is hilarious. The cast was excellent, with Holly Hunter and Nicholas Cage delivering memorable performances.

the first time watching it is a real treat.
But because of its dependance on style I wouldn't recommend watching it repeatedly (at least leave it a year or 2 if you really want to enjoy it again.) Otherwise the whole experience might become a bit empty.

    Nicolas Cage!

Typically insane movie from the Coen Brothers, two of my favorite movie makers. I don't necessarily like every film they make - some of them are a bit too esoteric for my tastes - but they when they hit, they hit on all cylinders.

For all the visual flair and deft performances on display in their films, the Coens' greatest virtue lies in writing? In terms of cheerful stories, witty dialog and the creation of a coherent, plausible fantasy world peopled by vivid characters, their ability to work original and... ...( read more )

I usually don't like Nicolas Cage, but in this of all movies I do like him. he's great! despite the fact that he's a baby stealing robber, I think he's wonderful.
the Coen brothers are great, it's hard not to like their movies.

Awesome film. I laughed so much throughout the whole hour and a half. I really dig Nicolas' mustache and Holly's accent. There are a few details that irritated me because it seems like it wouldn't happen that way in real life but otherwise everything else was perfect. The Coen br... ...( read more )

Entertaining Coen brothers movie. I especially enjoyed the mise-en-scene in the movie and some of the locations. There was a nice rhythmic quality to the movie. This is a funny and watchable cult/camp movie.

Cage is funny...Goodman is even funnier...
