Raising Arizona Reviews and Ratings

I usually dislike Nicolas Cage greatly, however I actually thought he fit his role perfectly.

It's the Coen brothers, what can I say? Entertaining as always, not one of their best but nevertheless a great and funny film.

  • June 8, 2009
A very funny film which plays on the wacky side of the Coen brothers and Cage. A truly comical film which is almost cartoony in it's ways.

Si vous avez aimé No contry for o...( read more)ld men, c'est dans la même exacte trempe..

the best part of this movie is one kid carving "fart" into the wall - other than that, it's complete shit.

Classic Coens screwball comedy, approaching perfection.

    Timeless classic funny movie.

has it's moments, but overall underwhelming.........

Though the film lost me a little with the bounty-hunter, the rest of the film is hilarious. The cast was excellent, with Holly Hunter and Nicholas Cage delivering memorable performances.

the first time watching it is a real treat.
But because of its dependance on style I wouldn't recommend watching it repeatedly (at least leave it a year or 2 if you really want to enjoy it again.) Otherwise the whole experience might become a bit empty.

Typically insane movie from the Coen Brothers, two of my favorite movie makers. I don't necessarily like every film they make - some of them are a bit too esoteric for my tastes - but they when they hit, they hit on all cylinders.

For all the visual flair and deft performances on display in their films, the Coens' greatest virtue lies in writing? In terms of cheerful stories, witty dialog and the creation of a coherent, plausible fantasy world peopled by vivid characters, their ability to work original and...( read more) entertaining variations on a genre indicates well for the future.

Fantastic at first, but I really think the bounty hunter subplot isn't funny in the slightest and the movie's final-hour focus on him really drags it down. Still, the unmistakable Evil Deadian energies here keep Raising Arizona mostly madcap,

I usually don't like Nicolas Cage, but in this of all movies I do like him. he's great! despite the fact that he's a baby stealing robber, I think he's wonderful.

Awesome film. I laughed so much throughout the whole hour and a half. I really dig Nicolas' mustache and Holly's accent. There are a few details that irritated me because it seems like it wouldn't happen that way in real life but otherwise everything else was perfect. A more Raimi-influenced Coen Bros pull out all the stops in this comedy crime caper masterpiece. (Yeah, I said it. Much more in your face than Fargo.)

Entertaining Coen brothers movie. I especially enjoyed the mise-en-scene in the movie and some of the locations. There was a nice rhythmic quality to the movie. This is a funny and watchable cult/camp movie.

A lot of things come together to make this film highly enjoyable; acting, writing, music, pace, directing... It's over-the-top fun. It took me several viewings before it sunk in that the film's base story is about child kidnapping; which is an extraordinarily serious crime. Parole Board member: Repeat offender!
Parole Board chairman: Not a pretty name, is it H.I.?
H.I.: No, sir. That's one bonehead name, but that ain't me any more.
Parole Board chairman: You're not just telling us what we want to hear?
    H.I.: No, sir, no way.
Parole Board member: 'Cause we just want to hear the truth.
H.I.: Well, then I guess I am telling you what you want to hear.
Parole Board chairman: Boy, didn't we just tell you not to do that?
    H.I.: Yes, sir.
    Parole Board chairman: Okay, then.

Glen: How many Polacks it take to screw up a lightbulb?

Glen: Wait a minute, I told it wrong. Here, I'm startin' over: How come it takes three Polacks to screw up a lightbulb?
    H.I.: I don't know, Glen.
Glen: 'Cause they're so darn stupid!
    [Glen laughs again. H.I. doesn't]

    H.I.: Why's that?
Glen: 'Cause you only get it on the way home.
    H.I.: I'm already home, Glen.
