    After 'First Blood', I assumed Stallone would have won an Oscar for his portrayal of troubled Vietnam veteran John 'Break Out The Knives' Rambo, and I supposed the fact he didn't was probably down to an oversight on behalf of the Academy or something.

    When he again failed to p...( read more)ick up the 'Best Actor' statuette after 'Rambo -First Blood, Part II', my suspicions began to rise ... but still I dismissed it as an unfortunate mistake.

    So imagine my fury when, after Rambo had not only saved imprisoned Vietnam veterans from years of incarceration at the bloodthirsty hands of the Vietcong, but also liberated the proud Afghans from the yoke of Communist oppression, he STILL did not receive the award that was rightfully his? Is this how America treats its war heroes? Because if it is, it's a bloody outrage. Not only did John Stallone liberate an entire country from the iron grip of the Great Bear, but he also found time to win the title of Heavyweight Champion of the World - not once, but THREE bloody times.

    If I was Sylvester Balboa, I would blow up planet Earth as punishment for being so damned ungrateful.

    Eh. Felt like they just really wanted another sequel. The only cool part was when he took care of his shrapnel wound with gun powder.

    Well Rambo 3 the third in the o...( read more)riginal trilogy, not including the latest one, is a classic example of what happens when a formula starts to flag and lose it's spark.

    The premise being his friend Colonel Trautman asks for his help, in typical Rambo style he refuses and then he gets kidnapped firing Rambo into action to save his friend from psychopathic Communist Soviets.

    He makes allies with the Afghans who are being slaughtered by the Russians. Hang on don't these people become terrorists I hear everyone thinking.
    It's ok the movie will get better, I'm nodding off through the first half. Then this Russian dude who questions the Colonel comes on and in his room they have crammed as many stereotypical Russian things as they can, ranging from a pic of Lenin, to the chess set and he's even smoking a ciggy like a typical Rusky. I mean come off it.
    Not to mention all this righteous bullshit with Rambo and all this Buddhist philosophies then we see him having a scrap in some over crowded scene. What a joke!

    The Russian Chopper, rain of death machine that appears throughout Rambo 3 reminded me of Metal Gear Solid and I can see also Hideo must have drawn some influence from this Rambo too as well as that Escape from New York film. The lines are typical cheese which are so bad it makes you laugh which offers a paradoxical watching element, if that makes sense.

    Richard Crenna gets to actually fight for the first time I've seen in a Rambo movie, plus that guy from Robocop shows up near the start with his slappy forehead Kurtwood Smith.
    Sylvestor Stallone could mumble his way out of a paper bag. His acting isn't the highlight of this, it's got to be the action. Plus that black vest really didn't look right to me. All or nothing, his muscles did look abit dodgy in areas. Definitely a let down after the two magnificent predecessors.

    I really do feel Rambo 3 is the first movie that I've seen where the Afghan's are glorified in an American film. Granted they may have trouble but when you have people like the Taliban or Al-Qaeda it makes you wonder why an American Hero like Rambo would be helping them. I'm going to go with the time the film was made and that they aren't all bad in their defense.

    Love the killer lines the colonel and Rambo have when faced with the Russian forces in the desert:
    Zaysen:"Drop your weapons! Now! You have no chance of escape! Come forward! I wish to take you back alive! This is your last warning! The choice is yours!"
    Colonel Trautman: "What do you say John?"
    Rambo: [loading his gun] "Fuck 'em!"

    Ultimately Rambo 3 ends up being incredibly boring for its first half then it goes into loads of action but the violence I felt was diluted and not as gory as the first two. As a whole it was a disappointment, that has a bland ending that didn't quite bowl me over like the first two were able too.

    Rambo III doesn't deserve all the pasting it received (even by Stallone himself during a recent interview). This film is meant to be part of the action genre. With this objective in mind it succeeds spectacularly. From top to bottom the film is nothing but badass action, explosions and lots of killing. If you want a good action movie, Rambo III definitely delivers.


    In this instalment we find the classic troubled Vietnam veteran John J. Rambo (Stallone) living a secluded life in a monastery. His old mentor Colonel Trautman (Crenna) is captured by the Russians and held prisoner in heavily guarded Soviet territory. As a mark of respect for Trautman, Rambo of course takes it upon himself to launch a rescue mission. With the help of some Afghan rebels, Rambo assembles enough ammunition to satisfy a small army and heads into Soviet territory.


    From that point on the rest of the movie is nothing but action - guns, explosions, helicopters, tanks, Rambo's bow, Rambo's knife and plenty of ammunition.


    Rambo III is probably on par with the second Rambo film. It's just cartoonish violence with little evidence of a plot holding it together. I am a massive fan of the action genre; hence I was very satisfied with the high level of action and violence. Lots of people get killed in creative ways. The final battle in particular is everything we have come to expect from the Rambo series.


    Sylvester Stallone was presented with a Razzie Award for Worst Actor. It's entirely your opinion whether you agree with this decision or not. Personally I think the man is underrated. There is potential talent in other genres. For the first Rocky film he was even nominated for an Oscar (two Oscars actually - one for Best Actor, another for Best Screenplay). I find it unfair that the Razzie committee take such pleasure in giving Stallone so much criticism. In this film his performance isn't that bad. I will admit, though, that there's a lot of screaming, a lot of contrived line deliveries and plenty of opportunities to show off his muscular physique. Once again this is an action movie so don't expect an Oscar-worthy performance.


    The director was also given a Razzie Award nomination for Worst Director. The directing is standard for the action genre. Action is entertaining, the drama is absurd. Rambo III was also given a very high budget so it looks quite epic at times. The action in particular is on a large scale. Several other Razzie Award nominations include Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. The screenplay is actually quite terrible. There was an attempt at providing back-story and character development. This failed spectacularly. Much of the dialogue sounds wooden and lifeless. Once again, an action film is expected to contain this content.


    Rambo III lacks the intelligence and ingenuity of First Blood; instead this has been replaced with an enormous rack of ammunition and firearms. This is definitely the weakest Rambo movie but it's certainly tolerable and it has an astronomical entertainment value.

    Not bad when it first premiered. You found yourself rooting against the evil Soviets and for the local Afghanistanians, the very same Afghanistanians who are now, The Taliban. Nice going, Sly.

    Rambo joins Osama Bin Laden and the Mujahedeens against the Russians in this unnecessary, fairly watchable sequel full of endless explosions and tiresome action.
