    Best Rambo sequel ever!

It's completely retarded at every instance yet extremely enjoyable on a visceral level, Stallone scrapes the bottom of the well and somehow finds gold in his bucket. The villains are faceless monsters (figuratively and literally, heads were a flyin' in this one) with a homosexual...( read more) leader for no apparent reason other than to show how much of a sick bastard he truly is (not my thinking obviously). Stallone looks good for sixty (face excluded) and still comprehends how to deliver action goods where the bulk of mankind has let this great knowledge slip from their fingers. Burma is really fucked up and holy shit did Stallone just rip out that guy's fucking throat like Dalton from Road House? Totally fucking rad, I can't wait for parts five and six which are hopefully out soon. He should fight Mexicans or Australians, those bogan pricks need to be taken down a peg or two.

I waited a long time for this movie and I wasn't disappointed. Some scenes are very harsh and sometimes hard to watch. But its all worth it when Sly slays them all at the end.

The fourth film in the Rambo series continues its downhill journey. I say fourth part, but the movie is supposed to be a re-installment, set 20 years after the last film, featuring a chunky and brutish Stallone. Yet, it is far from being a revisioning of the series (such as Batma...( read more)g Begins or Terminator: Salvation). Instead, it is same old same old, except for some of the quality one could find in the scraps of the old movies. While the first rambo movie was a personal story of grief and fighting your demons, small town idiocracy and the issue of post-veteranism, the later movies focussed on brutality and action. While the second one might be called gritty in you are willing to be enthusiastic about it, the third was a mere slugfest. The fourth is the same. But I would not go as far as calling it a fest. It is more of a small sluggish thingy.

Rambo lives in the jungle, which elegantly eliminates the filmmaker's issue of how to get Rambo to the jungle. Faster than you can say 'Bullettime', a group of idealist Christians gets lost in the jungle and who else but Rambo, who grew fond of one Christian ladybird, goes out to tear down half of the jungle, including its inhabitants, in order to rescue them. Unfortunately, the movie lacks any self-irony or self-awareness of the franchise and takes itself way too serious as an action movie, because as such, it cannot compete with any contemporary action flicks. The supporting cast is utterly weak and Stallone's face alone is not enough to carry the movie. A few attempts to spice up the plot by hinting at issues Rambo might have concerning his past and his nature of a killing machine go by unnoticed.

I give Stallone credit for trying to topicalize the horrible situation and ongoings in Burma by including BBC footage of human atrocitiies which happened there and casting mostly real Burmese actors, or people that is. But, that is not enough to make a valid poltical statement, especially if you oppose the "warcrimes" with a headless killing machine, killing for the sake of it (Live for nothing, die for something). So, let me get this straight ? If an American outlaw kills hundreds of people it's okay, but if the Burmese do it, it's not ? Same old story of America vs. The World, tedious.

This is a turkey and you should stay away from it, especially if you are fond of the first Rambo, which is a brilliant movie.Even those who are looking for a reenactment of the grittyness found in the 2nd movie should look elsewhere.

Stallone shows that he is an interesting actor to look at, he has a one in a million face, his voice is brutish and deep and I hope he will manage to become a A-List star once again (maybe B-List), but not like this.

Straight-forward return of Rambo, 20 years later. Missing the intensity and solemness of First Blood but this is what Rambo was made into, a killer. Just as the sequels went more action orientated, this is no exception. Plot sucks, but it delivers what it is supposed to... lots o...( read more)f blood and gore in today's hotzone.

Intense and visceral, a blood-soaked action flick that is quite appalling in its pessimistic speech that maybe the only useful weapon against brutality in the world is brutality itself.

A real surprise. It's a pure blood and guts action classic. Rambo is back and better than ever. Probaly the best one since First Blood. Directed and written by Stallone with such energy and fearless velocity. A slick and well-crafted adventure. An intense, shocking, eye-popping, ...( read more)head-bashing, bone-crunching, blood-thristy and exhilerating action-packed thrill-machine. Awsome adreniline-pumping action entertainment. It's truly heart-pounding, very thrilling and incrediably exhilerating. Sylvester Stallone gives a teriffic action-hero performance, bringing back the darkness, regret, wearyness and emotion that made Rambo one of his most popular characters ever. Stallone proves here that he's still a legend. A riveting and straight-forward edge of your seat adventure that you cant get enough of. An escape to old-school action movie fun.

Blood and Gore and not much else...
  • October 15, 2009
Was pretty stupid really >,> rambo died long ago... The era of those kind of movies kinda died now...
  • October 4, 2009
Not as bad as I was expecting, but it's following the trend towards the fantastic and in no way attempts to capture the depth of the first one. Ah well, you get to watch him mutilate a jeep with it's own turret gun.
  • October 4, 2009
The brutal scenes were very disturbing.. This comment comes from a Saw fan, pay attention=)
  • October 2, 2009
this has to be the greatest war movie ever made. the director did his duties 2 d fullest n i back him all the way.
i like the contents, the blood, the script..........i cant stop
  • October 1, 2009
This falls into the unnecessary sequel category. It seems instead of coming up with a new idea or a good script, Sly just made Rambo bloodier. Some of the blood/kills borderline comedy. The dialogue is almost as bad as a George Lucas script.

Had awesome action, but there shouldn't have been sexual assaults.

"Burma's a war zone." Classic Rambo.

"You know what you are. What you're made of. War is in your blood. Don't fight it. You didn't kill for your country. You killed for yourself. God's never gonna make that go away. When you're pushed, killing's as easy as breathing." - John Rambo

One of the best shoot'e...( read more)m up action films out there.

The icon, John Rambo, is living in Thailand, but one day a group of Christian missionaries asks him if he will take them into Burma in hopes of changing people's lives. Burma has suffered much under dictatorial rule and the people living there have been through mass-rape, famine, torture, and death on a daily occurrence. Rambo refuses and explains to them that unless they are bringing guns with them, they are not going to change anything in the war zone known as Burma. One of the missionaries, Sarah Miller, pleads again and again to Rambo, hoping that he will change his mind. He reluctantly gives in after she has tried so very hard of presenting her humanitarian mission to him. Rambo takes the missionaries to the village they requested. He then departs back to his home and a several days later he is visited by a friend of the missionaries, claiming he has not heard from them in far too long and believes that they have been captured or are dead. He asks Rambo if he will take a group of mercenaries to the same location in hope of finding these people. Rambo, a man who is disgusted with himself for being a gear of war for so long, is starting to come full circle and realize that war is in his blood, it is what he has trained for, and what he was born for. Rambo gears up, leads the group of mercenaries, and heads into one of the most violent battles he has ever been in.

The Rambo character is often associated with balls to the wall action, uber-violence, blood and guts, and this film is a technical achievement in that regard. It is not as bloody as some Zombie films but it completely blows every war film to hell. War movie masterpieces such as Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan just can compete with the level of action and violence in this film.

Sylvester Stallone knows how to act and direct solid movies he's known for. He also co-wrote this film with Art Monterastelli. The dialogue isn't incredible and there also isn't aren't any one-liners in this film (thankfully). Sometimes Rambo doesn't say anything and just meets people with a stare of death.

Overall the acting is good. It isn't Oscar worthy but for the situations the characters are in, it is convincing for the most part for how people would deal with a life or death battle in Burma. Rambo is the star of this film and Stallone doesn't disappoint. Sylvester isn't afraid to go overboard to be a character such as Rambo. He took steroids to get in shape for this film and his arms have so many veins popping that it looks like they are infested with worms. Rambo is back in the jungle and using guerrilla tactics to the max. Seeing Rambo on the big turret near the end of the film is just awesome as it reminds you of the action scenes in Rambo II and III, and the level of violence goes off the Richter scale. There isn't an in depth exploration of the villain, Major Pa Tee Tint (Maung Maung Khin), but he is an evil man and is a big improvement over previous villains of the Rambo series. The real horror is not the villain, but all the soldiers and powers that be in Burma making wholesale slaughter in this film and in the real world.

The music goes along nicely with the war setting and also with the flashbacks Rambo has where we see the psychological effects war has had on the character for most of his life. Brian Tyler has done the music for this film and Jerry Goldsmith's work on previous Rambo movies is still heard in this Rambo story. The character, John Rambo, is highly attuned to what's going on around him, never staying in what spot for too long. The same goes for the camerawork, as it is shaky and unsteady in the scenes it needs to be.

The film is only 1 hr. 33 min. long and it would have been better to have made it 2 hours in length because the film is an action achievement and it would have been interesting to see what else the film makers could have accomplished.

Personally, in the Rambo series, this film is a notch higher than First Blood. To many people, First Blood is the best Rambo film. However, I found the depiction of the character and action to be the most well done in this movie. The character has come full circle with what he has been in life: a soldier. Therefore, the Rambo series has come full circle as well. First Blood showed us who John Rambo is and what he is going through, First Blood: Part II elevated the series to high octane action, and Rambo III did the same but it was clear the series wasn't as cool. Rambo brings all the interesting parts of those films into one, whether it be the character's inner torment, how he is trying to find his way in life, who he is, or the insane action scenes.

This is a film definitely worth checking out if you are into action and war films and if you have a strong stomach. Throats are being ripped out, children being burned alive, guys heads being blown off at point blank range. Like the character Rocky Balboa, Stallone doesn't pull any punches and goes full force with the carnage and action.

Rambo for me was a lot like Tom Cruise's performance in Tropic Thunder. I expected next to nothing, somehow managed to end up pleasantly surprised for a while there then when he refused to ease off the clutch he fell flat on his silly ass again and I got turned off. And that's wh...( read more)at Stallone does with Rambo IV. I expected nothing as every other Rambo movie gave us nothing--weak plot, horrific acting, the occasional terrible one-liner, entertaining action and that's about it. Same thing here, no surprise. Didn't mind it too much. Then the grisly, over the top action (honestly, the only reason I bothered with this movie) kicked in. And I love grisly, over the top action but here it just seemed ridiculous and pointless. I actually laughed for a few minuted but once I realized it went on too long that was it. I'm sure if I was drunk I wouldn't have minded. I do thank Stallone for keeping his shirt on and not subjecting us to the large piece of boiled chicken he calls his body. Other than a few unintentionally funny parts this movie was a fart out of the ass of Rambo 3. Thanks to Stallone for trying to hold it in for so long but we all know they've got to come out sometime...

THIS MOVIE WAS THE BOMB! The old man's still got it!!!
  • September 6, 2009
This movie was super violent. It's pretty much all killing and some crazy deaths at that. Rambo vs. the world. haha
  • September 6, 2009
nice action movie specially at the 20 min of the end.

Eh...the shirt stays on the whole time...come on...what's a Rambo movie without the pecs? It was ok, not too bad I guess. Just not a great flick.
  • August 29, 2009
The film wasn't as good as the last Rocky film, Rocky Balboa. The film isn't as good as the previous 3 Rambo films. Stallone acts more like his character from Cliffhanger in the beginning of the film. Later in film, he is back acting more like John Rambo. This film followed the s...( read more)ame formula as Rambo 2 and 3, which is Rambo rescuing someone that has been captured. I thought he miscasted a lot of the actors, which was a surprise to me, cause he usually does a good job casting. Also this film felt like it lacked a good villain for Rambo to face off with. I did like the flashback montage in the film that shows clips from the other Rambo films. I hope the next Rambo films will have a better story and a better villain.

A bloody disgusting movie. A good watch for when you want an action driven movie with gory special effects.
  • August 25, 2009
When your pushed killing's as easy as breathing. I absolutely loved this movie. The guy @ Family Video said this was gory & he was right. But setting that aside it was pretty awesome watching Sly blow the heads off of the bad Bermese soldiers. Very good action flick. :)

I was told by a friend that when I watch this to expect a lot of gore and death. Boy was he right. Rambo is the man when it comes to killing and fighting in a war. Stallone gives a good performance as Rambo once more. The film is full of action and explosions. What you expect fro...( read more)m a Rambo film. With a very good story and interesting characters makes for a fun action film to watch. But I will warn anybody who does want to watch this that there is a lot of very graphic deaths in this. Very realistic and gory. If your a fan of the other Rambo films then I would suggest checking this one out.

I think that Rambo 4 was a better film when it came to action and violence but i think that when it came to the storyline it wasnt as good as the first one of the series.

Slylvester Stallone returns to his role of John Rambo nearly two decades after the last one, because of...( read more) this it gives me mixed feelings about the character as for a start i thought he was too old to be doing the fighting and action scenes. However he pulls it off, and shows that he can do action films while he is older. Sly did the movie after the Latest Rocky movie yet again people were questionning his age to be playing a part which should be for someone younger.

The action in the movie to many is that it is over the top and has to much gore in it , in some respects i agree with this as you see the main bad guy get gutted at the end before that you see sly kill many people and u see their heads get blown off and stuff but it was done well this movie was also directed by Stallone show it could hint that he could move into directing when he does decide to stop acting.

The storyline i thought was typical for a movie of the genre when the hero comes out of retirement to save a few people. however the storyline i thought was one of the better ones in the series as with rambo 1 being being the best storyline yet

Overall i thought it was a good movie to watch as it had a lot of action, but i thought if it was made a decade sooner it would have been better as Stallone would have been younger and less people wouldnt have asked if he was too old to play the part but he silenced his critics wrong with this good performance

This movie was pure gore and brutality. I have only seen the first Rambo which I liked but you don't really have to see the previous films to know whats going on here.

The action scenes almost make up for all the other faults in this film. Not a film to take children to but a great watch with your mates.

A vivid portrayal of Burmese military oppression and when you see them torn to shreds by Rambo you know its just.
  • August 15, 2009
Unlike the recent "Rocky Balboa", "Rambo" is an awesome sequel. Very reminiscent of the three previous action-overloaded classics....you'd never know Stallone is about 20 years older now. Definitely worth a watch, if not a purchase.

rofl @ rambo... nothing in this movie is real :p exept sylvestes hotness but i still like da movie

Its crazy how Stallone still looks like an action hero as an old guy.
