  A really cute, completely harmless, and often amusing family movie. I wish less of the story was focused on the adult characters (the Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Duhamel storyline almost put me to sleep) and more time was spent with the adorable Ramona (Joey King, who absolutely steals the movie) and the charming Beezus (Selena Gomez, who hopefully has a great movie career ahead of her), but honestly, there's not much about Ramona and Beezus that I didn't like. Anyone with fond memories of reading Beverly Cleary books as a kid or who wants to share the on-screen versions of the characters with their children will enjoy this. Ramona and Beezus is the rare kind of completely inoffensive family-oriented film that escapes blandess and boredom and leaves you with a grin on your face, despite all the sugary sweetness.

  A Little Sister Goes A Long Way. Very nice family film with very imaginative stuff and some real life problems everyone faces these days. Very clever story and fun for all ages. Watch it with your kids. Adapted from Beverly Cleary's perennially popular book series, Ramona and Beezus stars newcomer Joey King as Ramona Quimby, a grade-schooler with a big imagination. So big, in fact, that she often clashes with her no-nonsense teacher (Sandra Oh). When Ramona's upbeat dad (John Corbett) loses his job, the family including her teenage sister, Beezus (Selena Gomez), and their practical-minded mother (Bridget Moynahan) must make major adjustments, like dad learning how to run the house. Ramona dreams up various plans to make money so that she can save their house, but because everybody in the family seems too preoccupied to help her with her own worries, she turns to the one person who always has time for her, Aunt Bea (Ginnifer Goodwin). But even Aunt Bea is distracted these days because her ex-boyfriend and Quimby family next-door neighbor Hobart (Josh Duhamel) keeps trying to win Bea back.

The acting was made completely for kids and hollywood, but the movie IS for kids and hollywood so it didn'tbother me. The plot was very good in my opinion because it dealt with real life issues and how children percieve it. Its not a must see, but its a nice film.

  This wasn't really my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong I really do enjoy family films but this one just didn't hit the spot. Movie is about a 9 year old that is not only the center of attention but runs the show. I did find the part where she runs away from home very amusing as my foster mom did the same thing with her middle soon. Still I am sure most will find this very enjoyable, just wasn't for me. 3 stars

My Thoughts: "I ordered this tonight for my rugrats (niece's and nephew). My nephew seemed bored, but my niece's enjoyed it a lot. It's more of a girls film I guess. But it's a great film for the whole family too. They laughed and cried throughout the film. It's always sweet seeing little ones get emotional over a film. Joey King, is a great little actress. I know Selena Gomez is a popular girl, but this was my first time seeing her in anything and I thought she was great as well. A good kid flick that everyone can enjoy."

  Imaginative and heartwarming! Ramona and Beezus brings everything that has been missing out of all the bad family filmes this year. It's not amazing, but it is a film to watch a feel good about life. It's a great little harmless film that all ages can enjoy. I expected nothing from this film, but I got much, much more. Salena Gomez pulls off a performance that nobody could really expect. A wondeful family film!

  Adorable and a half. The beginning is a bit slow, but the middle and end are charming and moving - Picky Picky's burial, Hobart's proposal. Joey King is a delight. Selena Gomez is...inconsistent. She may be one of those actresses who has one great character - snarky, awkward, hip girl. When she plays someone subdued like Beezus (or how Gomez tried to play her), she's wallpaper.

  I'm just going to go out there and say it: Elizabeth Allen's "Ramona and Beezus" is the best film of the summer. It may not be the most visually thrilling ("Inception") or the most complex ("Salt"), but "Ramona and Beezus" is utterly charming from start to finish. In a age when films about children are laborious to endure, this is a bright, sweet and fun film. The acting is genuinely great from the very human cast. Joey King as Ramona hits every note like a seasoned professional. Her back up from John Corbett, Bridget Moynahan, Selena Gomez, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Duhamel and Sandra Oh is so solid and seamless that you believe this lot is a family. And family is what this film does so right. "Ramona and Beezus" captures in spades what "Where the Wild Things Are" tried so desperately to create: what it feels like to be a misunderstood child. It also deals with modern day family issues like the recession, divorce and dating in ways that never ring false. Sure, the film never gets dark but it also never skimps on the emotion. It's such a treat to see a film that families can enjoy, relate to and take something from without it being overly melodramatic, overly childish, or overtly religious. "Ramona and Beezus" is a wonderful film that deserves to find an audience. There really is something for everyone to enjoy in this truly, truly delightful gem.

  Yes I really did watch this right after watching Antichrist...and enjoyed it far better. I read the book when I was younger after a teacher conned me into reading a girl's book. Cannot tell you if it is a fair adaptation because I can't even remember the original content. What I can tell you is that this a good film. Childrens' films can suffer from the syrup but this effort manages to avoid the treacle and introduces very real life issues that impact children's lives. Very good.

  As a couch spud in suburban Pennsylvania, this reviewer spent an inordinate amount of time watching Little House on the Prairie, homespun morality tales masquerading as frontier drama. It was the one family-friendly program that his parents agreed on, but – although heavy-handed, over-acted, and too goody goody - it was also not the worst way to spend an afternoon (which would be watching Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp). Ramona and Beezus holds much the same appeal, spooning out pint-sized life lessons for every scripted knockabout misadventure—hammy eyebrow-raising, finger-wagging and all. With such a great cast, however, this piece of kid lit takes a giant step up. In this G-rated adaptation of the Beverly Cleary book, King and Gomez bring to life the exploits of rambunctious, accident-waiting-to-happen Ramona and her seemingly perfect older sister, Beatice “Beezus” Quimby. When their father (John Corbett) loses his job, their life and possibly their future gets turned upside down. Fans of the Cleary books won’t be disappointed. Director Elizabeth Allen has assembled a group of famous faces that could’ve turned this exercise into pure stunt casting…but the marquee talent stands and delivers, giving a contemporary voice to the decades old children’s books. Despite the well-played hi-jinks, however, the material sometimes feels its age. Yelling ‘Guts’ as a kid swear word seems soooooo 1955 (when the book was first published), as does the parental sermonizing. Still, a few skinned knees aside, for kids at heart and kids in general, Ramona and Beezus will give moviegoers laughs and even a few healthy tears. Bottom line: Will delight the Beezus out of you.

  Though forgettable and somewhat predictable, Ramona and Beezus manages to mostly refrain from resorting to potty-humor and slapstick antics to entertain its audience and stays a healthy step above your average kid-pic because of this.

  I read the first book with my niece and must say that Joey King is perfectly cast as Ramona and is very funny. Selena Gomez (Wizards of Wavery Place) isn't bad as Beezus either. The grown-ups however, are overly happy, phony and pretty one note. King's lively performance might at least keep you entertained through-out this overly adorable and cheerful movie. Even when Ramona's family might have to sell there house, it's time for a water fight!!!!

  Selena Gomez as Beezus was a bad move but the other characters are pretty close to the book and the movie has a Ramona spirit to it. Not the best but fun with some laugh out loud moments.
