I have never seen the Mel Gibson version, but I know the story and heard about the twist ending and how ridicules it is. I love the idea of a man who says screw the kidnappers and offer a reward for their heads. This film differs from the remake by the story being about why the f...( read more)ather makes the decision and how society treats him for making it. Glenn Ford is great as the angry and in control father who calls the shots while his wife is drugged up. Two stand out performances are Leslie Nielson(his first film performance) as a hard nosed newspaper man who seems to be the only one on Ford's side and the butler Juano Hemandez. It has some great scenes but all is forgiven a little too easily at the end. If you like the remake then I recommend seeing this version to compare and just too see how twist are unnecessary.
