Plot: In the annals of acting, 2004 will be remembered as a banner year for Jamie Foxx. Before his acclaimed turns in Collateral, alongside Tom Cruise, and Ray, the Ray Charles biopic, he prod...( read more read more... )uced and starred in this made-for-cable movie about former gangbanger Stan "Tookie" Williams. Directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Vondie Curtis Hall (Gridlock'd), Redemption tracks Tookie's rise as co-founder of L.A.’s notorious Crips, fall to death-row inmate, and rise again to Nobel Prize Nominee. Tookie’s reminiscences to journalist Barbara Becnel (Lynn Whitfield), while he is on death row, frame the story. Virtually unrecognizable from his days on In Living Color, a buffed-up, dreadlocked Foxx gives an effectively low-key performance, while Whitfield also shines in a less rewarding role. Redemption may not have the grandeur of Malcolm X or The Hurricane--and Tookie's transformation from man of violence to man of peace happens too quickly--but his story is just as inspirational. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

This was a warm up prior to Jamie Fox's acting in "Ray" and it was great acting portrayal of Stan Williams. I'd heard of Stan Williams but didn't know there was a film and this was the best ever.

He died a hero! If he would've been released, he would;ve been a force to reckoned with and they knew that so they would rather kill him than let him live. The finest inmate I've ever seen! I believe he made his peace with God.

Nothing special....it lacked something. Quite boring in some parts and in my opinion it had some flaws....

Jamie Foxx gives an awesome performance as Stan "Tookie" Williams, founder of the notorious Crips street gang in this riveting true story. Awaiting execution on death row, Tookie is now determined to stop the violence he helped create. When he begins a crusade to steer children away from gangs by writing a series of poweful anti-gang books, he earns worldwide critical acclaim, as well as four Nobel Peace Prize nominations.

FUCK Tookie Williams that cop-killing scuzball. I've got ZERO sympathy for that puke and any of his GD hippie-Hollywood supporters

If this movie doesn't show you the redemptive power within each of us & renew your faith in even the darkest of souls - I don't know what will... Revolutionary film...

A wonderful movie with powerful performances. I saw this one day and the next day, to my great surprise, i saw on the news he'd been executed

Jamie Foxx really found himself as an actor for the first time when this movie came out. I really think he realized he could be something amazing when he made this. Sure he doesn't look anything like Tookie but that really doesn't matter by the time the movie is over.

Stan Williams was a murderous piece of shit who not only savagely took the lives of his innocent victims, but even stole their status as (and thereby their rightful sympathy) victims.

Figures Hollywood would produce a movie designed to make us feel sorry for a murderous thug like this... idiots. Redemption? A more true to life portrayal of this man's life would be titled "Refuse"

Jamie Foxx is amazing. Manipulative screenplay, but the power of Foxx's performance can't be denied.
