A film that was meant to warn of the dangers of marijuana but it actually warning you off jazz musicians. You can always spot a jazz musician in the film because of their wild starring eyes and badly rolled joints.
    Best watched when stoned.

This one is a classic in itself as the sheer hilarity of some of this is timeless. Many questions come to mind here as to why/or better yet "how" could such a movie be made well, sit back and find out.I rated it 1 1/2 only because it is a classic dumb waste of film really......:)

Not particularly good--just a piece of poorly executed propaganda that came out coincidentally around the same time that marijuana was made illegal. It's more funny than anything and this movie will probably make you want to make you smoke pot more than scare you from doing it. All funny, nothing else.

This is one of those cult films that is unbearably stiff and ridiculous, but is also an extraordinary cultural and historical artifact.

"Drug-crazed abandon! Women cry for it! Men die for it!"

This propaganda film would be laughable in its badness and inaccuracies if it weren't instrumental in bringing about the criminalization of marijuana in the US.

    Fun to watch, though.

This is some of the funniest material you will ever see. If you walk away with anything - you'll know never to mix soft drugs and piano playing.

Not enjoyable in the traditional sense, more like "Oh my God, that's how some people really thought back then.:

this film was done for real by the way. It was released by the American government in the 1930's to deter ppl from smoking marjiuna.

I bought the dvd of Reefer Madness a couple years ago but haven't watched it until now. This is a typical black and white movie from the 30's from what I understand (I don't watch too much old stuff).

The plot involves a group of teens who are forced into using marijuana by some very well dressed pushers. Their lives are destroyed; people are killed and others are jailed.

What bullshit! Not that I know anything about drugs, but from what I have read, this shit don't happen. Jazz music? Murder? Fighting? Whatever. I prefer to be scolded from commercials, not completely unrealistic movies.

Some say this was intended to be somewhat of a mockumentary. Others say it is straight propaganda. I don't know the real story. It is a good debate though.

I have never known for sure if this was made as a propaganda piece or to make fun of the propaganda that the government did (does) produce.

This movie is HYSTERICAL. It was originally meant to be a school film teaching children the dangers of marijuana, but somewhere, the message (as horribly humorous as it was) just got lost. This movie is full of past misconceptions about marijuana that have long since been disproven. A great, and hysterically funny movie to watch either stoned or sober. Good fun!!!!!

Not very funny, just totally ridiculous. I was rather offended at the claims the movie made. Did anyone seriously believe anything in this movie?

Terrible 30's propaganda movie that gets the effect of weed all wrong. However it's pretty funny since it's so bad, it's good.

More a cult classic than great cinema. The US government wasting taxpayer money once again. Isn't that piano player insane?

An early, inept attempt to deal with drug issues. Watched more for it's unintentional humor value today.

Even aside from its simplistic moralizing and medically ludicrous agitprop, it's the asinine performances and amature pacing and editing that make this film as hilarious as it truly is.

It's sooooo badly acted, you kinda forget it's supposed to be a serious propaganja film. The face the guy makes when he thinks he sees his girlfriend get busy with th other dude is priceless.

I've already posted this in Reefer Madness (1936) but here it is again:

Good news! Reefer Madness is Public Domain, meaning it can be freely downloaded, copied & distributed. Get it from Internet Archive:

    http://www.archive.org/details/reefer_madness1938

For some reason, Flixster is separating the org from the details by putting an empty space between the slash '/' and 'd'

You'll have to deal with that to get to the movie.
