This is a wonderful movie. Adam Sandler in a serious role about his struggle to deal with the grief of losing his entire family in the 9/11 attack. Sandler is just barely holding himself together when he meets his college roommate (Don Cheadle) who actually is not doing so hot h...( read more)

Heart-wrenching superb performances by Sandler and Cheadle with just enough humor to ease the heaviness of the story-line.

The first mainstream post 9/11 drama has Adam Sandler in a serious role. Ok, you're thinking that he's not up for it and all that you can wait for is another goofy performance. He already has "Punch-Drunk Love" to prove that he can put aside the Sandler we're used to and give a t...( read more)

Sandler does a great job showing how maddening and crippling the loss of a family could be.

Critic Reviews
The film is slick when it needs to be raw, tidy when it needs to sprawl, and amorphous when it needs to focus. full review
This is not a simple, uplifting tale. It's never clear whether Charlie will fully recover, and that sense of realism is the film's strength. full review
Reign Over Me uses the rhythms and moods of comedy to explore, and also to contain, overpowering feelings of loss.
Reign Over Me is a very gentle picture, intended to soothe us, not to jolt or shock us. But it's so gentle that it lacks any discernible energy. full review
There's no quick label for the kind of assured, humane films that writer-director Mike Binder makes. full review
As Charlie Fineman, a Manhattan dentist who lost his wife and two children when their jet crashed into the World Trade Center on 9/11, Sandler is stuck in a movie that won't come unstuck. full review
Tackles issues of tragic loss, survivor's guilt, and psychological defense mechanisms with disarming sincerity. full review
Reign Over Me closes with, at best, a cautious hope, leaving us more anxious than when we went in, and throughout the film there is a stunned and bewildered air hanging over the city, like a heavy smog. full review

July 1, 2007I just saw this movie it was great i am not the biggest fan of dramas but i like the odd one, but this cast was brilliant and the story was touching it is sad to think that there really are people like charlie and i hope god gives them the strengh to make it through. The story did lack a little pace a little slow but it did have its funny parts for such a deep and moving movie. A must see!! sandler and cheadle should make another movie together they did a great good this time!! And i to was surprised at how well adam potrayed this role simply brilliant!!

March 25, 2007When I first saw the commercials for Reign Over Me I thought it was a bad idea for a movie, but when I actually saw the movie I was so wrong.
Now there I was thinking that Adam Sandler could only act in comedy movies, because in those funny movies Adam acted in he was NOT serious at all. But when I was watching the movie I realized that he can act, like that he can really act. Not just to funny movies but to movies that had heart felt emotions in them.
Dude, Adam Sandler totally nailed the scene where he was telling Don Cheadle about his family. The crying looked like it had so much feeling into it, this has really taught me about not judging a book by its cover. Cuz you know on the outside Sandler looks like a funny guy, but to put that much emotion into the part of "Charlie" wow.
