There is no lack of victims for the 3 high-faluting, stylish villains as they pursue their prey to 19th century Paris, and the very young puppeteer, Andre Toulon. Toulon runs a puppet theatre in the heart of Paris, and meets the sorcerer (the mysterious Afzel) when he is found by the lovely Swiss Ambassador's daughter Ilsa, after being nearly killed. It is there and then that we find the seed of things to come, and the origin of the Puppetmaster series of tales.

    Hey, wait! I thought the Puppet Master legacy began with Toulon's work during World War II? Nope. It actually began much earlier, with crude wooden unpainted models and an Egyptian cult trying to get their secret of life back. It's cool to see old versions of the puppets we are u...( read more)sed to seeing in the previous films. The story has a bit of intrigue and suspense. I couldn't buy the idea that this was a prequel to everything; the movie timelines are too confusing to really understand a connection. The story and effects were a bit weak, making me feel like I had only watched half an idea.

    It must be a pretty dull movie when they can't find enough watchable bits to make a 1'36" trailer look even remotely exciting.

    It's slow compared to the other films in the series and once again reinvents Andre Toulon's history but the puppets are cute. I'm a sucker for them so that's why this movie gets rated so high. :p

    Maybe the most boring of the PM series. The titular "retro puppets" have substandard designs and effects, and the villains are similarily dull. However, the plot is fairly interesting.

    Perhaps the most boring version of Puppet Master. I really don't see how someone could make this movie, look back on it and say "I made a horror movie." It was more like a very boring drama with puppets that get on people and stab them. There's a love story that tries to be impor...( read more)tant, but it's not. A boring, self-important movie.
