Plot: Romeo Is Bleeding is the flawed black comedy from director Peter Medak (The Krays) about a bad cop who slowly gets his due. Gary Oldman plays yet another quirky character, this time a N...( read more read more... )ew York detective on the take. His life goes haywire as he squares off with a Russian hit woman. Despite an intriguing cast and great dialogue, the movie becomes a bit too eccentric for its own good as several actors have nothing to do. The high point is Lena Olin, who finally has a role she can sink her teeth into: her zesty, monstrous assassin, Mona Demarkov, is one of the great movie villains. --Doug Thomas

The film starts a little slow but it gets better as it goes. The story seems to miss some elements to really add the dark side of gangsterism. Gary Oldman is always on top of his game. But Lena Olin is the real deal. She is the modern version of femme fatale.
Overall, do not expect too much from the film, otherwise it might be disappointing.

I loved the ending! He got what he deserved ultimately and Lena Olin kicks ass in this movie, which she is rarely given the opportunity to do.

Very good film noir/thriller with Gary Oldman as a US cop who starts to get involved with gangsters after giving tip- offs on various gangland targets,in return for alot of cash.He seems to be enjoying this as it seems an easy way to make alot of money for what is a fairly easy job. That is until a sexy, but mental, assasin, played very well by Lena Olin, becomes involved and Oldman's character gets seduced just as the gangsters order him to kill her.Things get interesting as Olmans character,Jack, has desicions to make that will effect the life of him and his wife,as well as the double crossing assasins'.Although it looks a little dated this is a well made and very well acted thriller with Oldman putting in another great performance.

A weird mix between a crime-drama,a tense thriller and a romantic movie,Romeo is Bleeding is anything but boring, thanks to a twisted plotline and amazing performances from Oldman and Olin. It's not exactly a feel-good movie, but it's interesting, original, and entertaining.

A movie about holes. A tongue-in-cheek nightmare of a man trapped in a hole of despair because of his addiction to "holes": the hole in his back yard where he squirrels away pay-offs from betraying mob witnesses; and, the holes of his wife and lovers. He betrays even these holes for the biggest hole of all: an intensely seductive succubus played by Lena Olin. She offers him the best of both holes: intense sex and enough money to leave. But her promise is only the ultimate illusion of his addiction. She sucks him dry of virility, his family, his job, his life, his pride, and his money. His desperate escape is too little too late and he is left waiting endlessly to regain the only thing that really meant anything to him in his life, but which he has already betrayed and lost. Intense, interesting, and an overall excellent film-noir. Goes very well with almond trout and a bottle of Riesling.

I've had this on my list awhile and finally got around to watching it. Why did I wait so long? It was great. Oldman's character really gives you no reason to root for him but in the end I was sort of hoping Nat would walk through that door, no doubt due to Oldman excellent performance. And Olin was the perfect crazed hit woman that I was hoping would bite the dust in some over the top fashion. As far as the Flixster synopsis saying that it's flawed due to some actors having nothing to do? Well I think it was just fine, the movie wasn't about them so they didn't need juicier parts.

An over the top modern noir with some fun writing and acting, Lena Olin is crazy and Oldman is amazing as always.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. A "black comedy" that isn't funny and isn't particularly "black".

Very bleak, Gary Oldman is such a fine actor. I always liked this sad movie, and now I am very bleak and waiting for the impossible that I don't want to believe is impossible.

A Femme Fatal tour de force!
Hard edged & raw, this movie is well written & acted with Oldman giving a stellar performance.
I especially like the unique style of this movie.
    This is very black comedy

Great flick, Oldman is brilliant as usual and Lena Olin is the baddest bad guy ever, she just rocks. Teriffic soundtrack as well.

The best chick flick ever made that does not have a woman whimpering with a broken heel begging some man not to kill, rape or beat her. There is also no quick "I'm in love with you after 20 minutes of knowing you" scene.

Oldman's fine, but Michael Wincott is who I'd watch for in this gritty little tale. He's the ultimate smiling villian; hell, he might even be a nice guy if he wasn't a hit man....

This is a pretty dark film. Leno Olin is wicked personified in this. Gary Oldman is his usual wonderful self.

Gary Oldman is excellent in the film noir about a crooked cop and the three women in his life. Great drama, action, and sexual intensity. Love the score; especially at the end of the film.

This movie has it all - sex, violence, action, suspense, comedy and good music - not to mention Gary Oldman who is an excellent actor and Lena Olin as the female BAD guy - very hot.

Gary Oldman siempre será capaz de salvar una película a menos que lo pongan como ruso y a enfrentar a Harrison Ford. Esta es una muestra. Nadie hubiera logrado con este film lo que logró él.

I try to stop thinking. Try to get my head straight. If I could just get my head straight... then everything would be all right.

Lena Olin and Oldman are devestating together, tearing up the celluloid like it is no one's business. Unfortunately, Medak is kind of a useless tool and exploits them of their talents. Another blame can be put onto the screenwright who could have made a more appealing plot altogether to match his acute writing style.
