I think this is good enough for multiple viewings but the first time you just need to experience. Move the cushion to the front of your seat, turn it up and hold on for the ride. I've seen it a few times but the first time really blew me away.
While cryptic dialogue and shadowy chracters took a little of it's grade for me, there's no denying the excitement of this movie's car chases and loud gunfights. DeNiro and Reno make a terrific pair and McElhone is ridiculously beautiful. There's a great supporting cast and a great David Mamet script filled with memorable hard-boiled lines.
Lackluster espionage film that is saved by Robert DeNiro and Jean Reno. I kind of think of this as a European version of Heat, just without any real character development. DeNiro gives a classic performance in this forgettable film.
I would like to add that this film received extra points because it featured three former Bond villains (Sean Bean from Goldeneye, Jonathan Pryce from Tomorrow Never Dies, and Michael Lonsdale from Moonraker).
Kind overrated to me but I still dug it. I was expecting Sean Bean to come back near the end so it kinda sucked that he's only in it in the beginning. Still, you got Robert De Niro and Jean Reno kicking ass so that made up for it. Also cool to see Natascha McElhone and with an Irish accent, no less. I like her better without it but damn, every time she said "case", I thought she said "kiss" and that just made her unbelievably sexy. Jonathan Pryce, on the other hand, couldn't really pull it off. I didn't buy his accent at all. Oh and Stellan Skarsgaard is a creepy motherfucker. Every time there was a close-up of his face, I felt paranoid. Still, there was an awesome car chase, a few short but good shootouts but nothing too spectacular. Decent flick, though.
wow what a great movie....this is a great action/adventure movie with some great actors throughout this movie...i think that robert de niro is great as ronin in this movie...the car chase scenes/gun shoot outs throughout this movie are all amazing....this has got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie..i think that the director of this Action & Adventure movie had done a great job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie because the director keeps you on the edge's of your seats throughout this movie n u never know what 2 expect throughout this movie
I finally saw this movie and it's actually better than I expected. De Niro and Jean Reno make a good team. But the main highlight of the movie are the car chases. That long chase through Paris blew my mind wow! Had to up it from 3 stars to 4 stars due to that spectacular chase scene alone.
I have allways had my doubts on Jean Reno but hey..he is not that gay he was in that swiming movie. good car chase aswell....and i never like car chases
A brilliant film. Smart, thrilling and explosive. Stylish, crafty and original. Spectacular non-stop action and suspense. Filled with explosive gun battles and exhilerating car chases. Action films dont get any better than this. It's a pure adreniline-rush. Excitment you can cut with a knife. Robert De Niro and Jean Reno are perfectly cast. A pulse-pounding ride that is really entertaining. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. A masterpiece. It ismade with real epic scope and is delivered expertly.
john franken heimer has proved that he is the master of creating car chasing scenes.no one will ever forget his great job in movies like french connections 1&2 with gene hackman in them.that was a memorable scene but now ronin has got alot more bunch of those scenes and a lot more perfect actors and actresses and that is why u should watch it more and more to enjoy it like u have never enjoyed of any other movie of his. in my opinion it was his best and most standard movie of his
Great movie. You appreciate it a lot more more watching it the second time, especially the chemistry between De Niro and Reno. The car chases are still fantastic and the screenplay is superb.
uneven actioneer with a definite european flair....good car chasing to change the pace of this slower paced film...competent acting by De Niro and Reon prop up a wishy washy script....an ok movie....
De Niro headlines a strong cast in this nicely produced, nifty thriller that somehow doesn't totally deliver on its promise. The 'top-secret briefcase' style plot is a bit of a yawn from the get-go but remains in tradition with the rest of Frankenheimer's solid body of work. The car chases are thrilling to a degree, but don't match the recent Bourne Ultimatum, the twists are certainly present however and the last act in a fullhouse ice skating arena involving De Niro's former-agent and his offsider Reno, Pryce's Irish terrorist and "the Russians" as they are referred to make for a fun, stylish ending. The audience also gets to travel from Paris to Nice in wintery France.
A great movie with intelligence, action and some really excellent car chases. The emphasis on realism rather than spectacle, and it really pays off in creating a tense atmosphere.
Ronin is unemployed samurai that hired as a protector n bodyguard .. they did not belong to any clan .. match with the story .. n the chase scene is really cool as u drive on Audi A-4 at its best time ..
Ronin ticks every box that a true action film should, explosions, car chases, gunfire, over the top action. Robert De Niro in one of his finer films in the last decade fitsthe role perfectly and is abley assisted by Jean Renoi, Natascha McElhone and Stellen Skarsgaard among others. The story is strong and quite well conceived, this offers all you can need from an action flick.
i didn't like much the ending... :0- i thought it was blah. it should have ended just like any other american action movie: everybody gets to know what was in the bag, the pretty lady shows up and... and... well, jean reno can finish it up talking about whatever.
Probably the best, if not one of the best, espianoge (sp?) movies in the past 20 years. The Car Chase scene is the best I have ever seen, and they did it in the same tunnel Princess Di crashed in. Crazy!
