Gregg Allman, Jason Patric, Jennifer Jason Leigh

"It's an ugly world," warns brooding undercover cop Jason Patric to his naive rookie partner Jennifer Jason Leigh. "You get ugly with it." First-time director Lili Fini Zanuck brings both accomplished...( read more  read more... ) style and three-days-without-a-shower grit to this tough adaptation of Kim Wozencraft's book, the real-life story of two undercover narcotics agents who succumb to the rush of the drugs and the danger while building a case in rural Texas in 1974. This isn't an action film, but a harrowing, tense drama in which sudden death hangs over every drug deal and the so-called rules no longer exist. Patric and Leigh give riveting performances as the compromised cops trying to survive the self-destructive spiral into addiction, and Gregg Allman is memorable in an almost wordless performance as a shady bar owner. Eric Clapton's bluesy score and a soundtrack of well-chosen roadhouse tunes perfectly set the time and the tone. --Sean Axmaker

No cinema other than of US produced more hardboiled detective or undercover cop stories with chases on corridors, bouncing thugs over the walls or kicking the doors with famous lines like: "Freeze!" and what's so special about Lili Fini Zanuck's first and only feature "Rush" is t...( read more)hat it boldly goes against the schemes, creating a convincing character study which revolves around themes such as lonleiness, addiction, guilt and suffering, leaded by powerful performances from Jason Patric and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It's a rare example of movie in which line between cop and villian is so fine - since it shows what good has to go through in attempt to conquer the evil - that sometimes, by looking at their actions, they can look very much alike. Evident gem of 90's.

I can't explain why I love this movie so much, I just do. Leaving Las Vegas, Blow, and any movie about over the top drug and alcohol use I tend to like. Especially if I like the actors. With Jason Patric and Sam Elliot, I really can't go wrong here. One of my favorite soundtr...( read more)acks of all time as well: complete Eric Clapton.

I liked this film when it came out in '91, and it holds up.
Jason Patric and Jennifer Jason Leigh star in this tale of two undercover cops(narcotics agents) who get caught up in the lifestyle as they are in pursuit of a shady bar owner who may very well be the biggest drug pushe...( read more)r in the area, as well as other dealers with the help of a friend and user.
The performances by Patric and Leigh are brilliant in this dim film based on true events of two narcotics agents in 1974 rural Texas who literally take their work home with them which is clearly nothing but trouble in many ways. Eric Clapton's bluesy score adds to the time and tone of the film as well.

I literally just seen this like a few hours ago for the first time ( as of 8/14/09 5:PM) on Starz and it was vintage Jason Patrick. And even though he was all strung out and sh** i still thought he was attractive,(lol), But for a rating it doesn't get one....

Rush was a very powerful and moving film involving drugs, dealers, and undercover cops. Jason Patric and Jennifer Jason Leigh plays undercover cops, who buys and use drugs all while trying to bust 1 particular dealer, Gaines, played by Gregg Allman (member of The Allman Brothers ...( read more)Band). Their characters get in too deep, getting addicted and falling in love.

I thought Jason Patric's performance was extraordinary and very believable, Leigh was great as well, and Sam Elliott just topped the film off.

Rush had an awesome soundtrack. The music was composed by the talented Eric Clapton.

    From imdb.com:
The film's score was written by Eric Clapton, who recorded the album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" with help from Gregg Allman's brother, Duane Allman.
