Chris Tucker is one of the best comedic actors on screen right now and Jackie Chan is the best action star ever. You mix them up and what do you get? Quite a rush. There are not as many or as long kung fu fighting scenes like in Jackie's good old Hong Kong classics like Drunken Master II or Project A. But on the other hand, those movies don't make you laugh like Rush Hour. The movie does never have a dull moment, it's action and laughs, action and laughs throughout the whole thing. This isn't a movie for everyone but anyone who likes Jackie Chan or Chris Tucker will probably love it. I know I did.
Very funny, this movie shows you what happens when you put these kind of people together, lots of laughs, stacks of action, and more thrills than your hearts desire.
It is one of my most favourite movies, with is very very funny! With Chris Tucker and his continuos bragging and Jackie Chan struggling to speak English, it is a perfect combination!
The plot line may sound familiar. Two mismatched cops are assigned as reluctant partners to solve a crime. Culturally they are complete opposites, and they quickly realize they cant stand each other. Jackie Chan believes in doing things by the book. Chris Tucker is an amiable rebel who wants to do things on his own.
I love Jackie Chan movies, and this has to be one of my favorites. Chris Tucker did a very good job. There's not much more to say about this besides its really funny.
Yawn, y now everyone knows rush hour is a misnomer. Its ruch hours because you're in traffic for ahours. Anyway, this buddy cop movie, a shameless riff on Beverly Hills Cop and Lethal Weapon, isn't all that funny. Chris Tucker is annoying and Jackie Chan is just wrong.

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, not a combination i thought would work out but then again, im not a hollywood producer. This is a great movie by todays standards. Very funny and enough action to keep you absorbed
After stopping an antiques racket headed by the most powerful crime lord in Southeastern Asia, Hong Kong Police "Detective Inspector Lee" (Jackie Chan) is asked by Chinese "Consul Han" (Tzi Ma) to come to America to find his kidnapped daughter, "Soo Yung" (Julia Hsu), much to the distain of the FBI agents on the case.
Thinking that they don't need help to find the girl, kidnapped by the one who masterminded the racket "Lee" broke-up, the FBI goes to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) to have one of their officers "babysit" "Lee" as they go after the villain on their own. The police chief assigns "Detective James Carter" (Chris Tucker), who believes he is too good at his job to even have a partner to back him up on the LA streets. The fact is, his ego needs to be deflated a bit.
It is apparent from the start that the two don't like the situation they have been thrust into by the FBI, but slowly become friends as the movie movies along. The two teach one another about each other's ways and culture, making them a stronger team than the FBI agents assigned to the case. It also turns them into good friends, which is proven when "Lee" is sent back home, and "Carter" sneaks onto it and convinces "Lee" to get off the airplane so they can finish what they started and find the child.
The one thing a Chan movie is known for is the amazing action sequences and the crazy high-risk stunts that Chan will frequently perform himself without any safety equipment, which doesn't make him too popular with insurance companies issuing policies to cover the films he's involved with. It is just incredible how fast the fight scenes, and how psychotic the stunts Chan performs himself are. It is so hard to believe that the blooper reels put at the end of his films showing all the mistakes he and the stuntmen he's trained aren't longer than the films themselves.
The one thing that works best, next to the fights and stunts, is the on-screen team of Tucker and Chan. Their comedic timing is as near perfect as you can get. It is also obvious that Tucker took a lot of time to train for the fight scenes, even though it is obvious that the fight stuntmen slow down quite a bit when they switch over to working with him than they do with Chan.
I don't like in movies, being a grandson of a now deceased police officer, is how any law enforcement agency is depicted when the organization is in a supporting role like in this one. There is no way any law agency would not welcome any outside help in solving a case. They might think they can solve the case on their own in real life, but they would never hire a person to "babysit" an outsider who is trying to solve the same case. It would never be the outsider solving the case on his own, it would be a team effort despite the headbutting going on at headquarters between the two.
Despite that this movie follows the same formula as many buddy cop movies of the past and the future, this will give you lots of high-flying action with very good comic bits thrown in from time-to-time.
I am not big on Brett Ratner's work but this first installment in the Rush Hour trilogy was pretty decent. The film stars Chris Tucker as a cop who must aid a foreign officer who is tasked on capturing assassins.
I could go on with the storyline but basically there wasn't any. The films main emphasis was action and comedy. Those 2 is where this film shined at. Other then that it was a run of the mill action/comedy oriented film that really didn't deserve the hype it had gotten. Jackie Chan most certainly deserved better then this.
Jackie Chan, my all time Fav Superman in Martial Arts. And Chris Tucker, boy I wonder do that guy ever shut his mouth. Great Duo, though Jackie Chan gets along with every co-star beside him. What I love about this Guy is, he is such a Random actor. And I love the outtakes at the End of the Movies with Jackie Chan.
The film renowned for bringing Jackie Chan to the international spotlight, cop action-comedy 'Rush Hour' teams the stunt man with fast-talking American Chris Tucker for a fast, energetic and surprisingly enjoyable flick that seems your average mainstream movie, but is a lot more fun than you might expect.
Chan plays Chief Inspector Lee, who is brought in from Japan to help the FBI with a kidnapping investigation. He is paired with liability Detective James Carter (Tucker), who is meant to be keeping him out of the way, but obviously the pair takes things into their own hands, and end up solving the majority of the case. Anyway the (rather predictable) plot isn't too important.
Thankfully, Chan and Tucker work extremely well together. Their opposite character manners make for some great situational moments, and hilarious lines bounce off each other even during the over-the-top action and fight scenes. Chan's stunts may not be as impressive as in his native films, but they are cool enough to please most of a western audience.
Unfortunately, the supporting characters are largely one-dimensional, save for signature villain Tom Wilkinson who adds a lot of cool and menace to some otherwise flat scenes. What works best is seeing Chan and Tucker trying to worm their way out of a number of awkward and mischievous moments, their charm and charisma adding a fresh spin on the cop-buddy action genre.
'Rush Hour' is probably as good as most action-comedies get. There's a lot of amusing moments in between the slamming and fighting, and the casting of the two leads makes for an unusual but pretty neat couple. Exciting, laid-back entertainment.
At first, I thought the show was a bit racist. Pairing a chinese and a African American as something the CIA is wanting out of the way. And Come on, ever notice the FBI are all mostly white guys. But Jackie and Chris show them who's the best in kicking bad guys ass and making jokes
