  Boaz Yakin's <i>Safe</i> is anything but safe.<p>Sporting a run time just under 90 minutes and a frantic pace to go with it, <I>Safe</i> runs red lights and spills the blood to keep the thrills at a high level. The first 5 minutes is a tough swallow, as it employs erratic scene transitions one after the other to reveal characters and locations. Fortunately, things calm down. Not calm as a vanishing hurricane, but more a hurricane being downgraded from a level 5 to a level 4. Spurts of nifty scene transitions and cinematography are still in the picture.</p><p>The action is a plenty with a high body count. It is a much welcome sight to make up for the mediocre storytelling.</p><p>Jason Statham is nothing new. He does what he does best and that is star in this type of movie. The rest of the cast is more or less forgettable.</p><p><i>Safe</i> fits right in as another action thriller starring Jason Statham. Nothing more, nothing less.</p>

I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it is his philosophy of action films. The movie is entertaining and has a decent plot. There is SO much killing. I'm getting use to it though with his movies. I wish I could say Jason brings something new to the movie, but he doesn't. Same stuff different story. Still though, I enjoyed it. Worth watching at least once."

  Taking a page from Mercury Rising, what we have here is the story of a tough guy with a troubled past who finds himself protecting a special kid with special skills wanted by dangerous criminals with bad intentions. The specifics are as follows: Jason Statham is Luke, a former elite cop turned second rate MMA cage fighter who happens to stumble upon Mei (newcomer Catherine Chan)- a young Chinese girl with an impeccable memory who has a series of numbers in her mind that's connected to shady deals between corrupt cops, the Triads, and Russian mobsters. Deals go bad, she goes on the run, and, having to be in the right place at the right time, gets saved by Luke who then spend s the rest of the movie trying to figure out the info the girl has, while protecting her, and trying to find some personal redemption. Yeah, for a film that you would think is a straight-forward action thriller, there's a lot of plot here, tons of twists, and turns, and probably way too much going on. Thankfully it's not the most convoluted and impenetrable mess in the world, but maybe it didn't have to be quite as heavily plotted. Well, I guess it do show a sense of ambition and effort, so that's nice. Statham delivers what he usually does, and that's fine. He's maybe a tad better here than with the second Crank movie, but not as good as he was in something like The Bank Job. He is pretty believable and likeable though, no surprise. Chan fares better than most child newcomers, though I can't really say if she'll have much of a career after this or not. Aside from all this, everyone else just comes off as routine, but that's fine. It is kinda nice seeing James Hong again, though. BEsides lots of plot, there's also tons of action, and the film usually flips back and forth between the two often, but throughout there's also some character moments, but nothing outstanding. The fights and stunts are great though, and they do match with the rest of the film nicely. Overall, this is a pretty enjoyable movie, and it's better than it has to be. It's not really that special, and I think the structure and plotting could have been re-worked, but at least it wasn't a total cookie cutter affair. This is one of those films where, despite the rating, I'm giving it a pass, because hey, it's fun, and actually rather competent.

  A pure adrenaline-charged action-packed thriller. A sensational and rip-roaring roller-coaster of excitement and mayhem that`s hard-boiled and hard-edged. A whip-smart, stylish, sharp and brutally intense film that is for sure one of the years best surprises. A non-stop, pulse-pounding, hold on to your seat thrill-ride that never lets up. A dazzling, heart-pounding and wickedly well-crafted action film. A great movie with a great story filled with explosive action, powerful drama and great surprises. Director, Boaz Yakin`s directional debut is slick, crafty and packed with energy that makes this movie worth while all the way to the end. Jason Statham gives a knockout performance, he packs lots of power, energy and surprising heart. Statham is truly at his best and you cant help but love him in this. Loaded with barrel's blazing gun battles and thrilling fight sequences to keep action junkies satisfied. An awesome instant classic. Rivals with films like The Professional and Man On Fire.

Coming to her aid is an ex-cage fighter whose life was destroyed by the gangsters on Mei's trail. <center><font size=+2 face="Century Schoolbook"><b><u>REVIEW</u></b></font></center> Mei (Catherine Chan), a genius level Chinese 11 year old, is brought to the USA to use her mathematical gifts to enhance the crooked businesses of "Uncle" Han, who subsequently tasks her with remembering a long number: a coded safe combination. Luke Wright (Jason Statham) is a cage fighter following leaving an elite NYPD special ops unit after betraying corrupt colleagues. When he wins a fight against expectations, the Russian mafia murder his wife in retaliation for their losses, and turn him into a wandering itinerant. And then he encounters Mei, running away while pursued by Uncle Han's men, the Russian mafia, and the corrupt police. Jason Statham is not one for betraying your expectations, and he does not do so here. The story is satisfactory, there is a mountain of violence (none of it desperately graphic), and a lot of action, a couple of decent lines, Statham's bad US accent, stubble, undeniable screen presence, and occasional flashes of his somewhat disconcerting smile, and a decent, if necessarily one note performance from Miss Chan. I enjoyed this rather more than Statham's last couple of movies.

  I love Jason Statham action movies. He's like today's version of what Sylvester Stallone or Bruce Willis was doing in the 80's/90's. "Safe" sits perfect next to other greats like the "Transporter" and "Crank" series. He plays a circuit MMA fighter with bad luck who blows a rigged fight and gets in trouble with the Russian Mob. Thinking of killing himself he sees a small Asian girl who is being chased onto a subway. He then decides to try to save her. Turns out she is a girl used by the Chinese mafia because she is a child prodigy with numbers, and she is their human computer. As they run from the mob, there are numerous twists and turns, and tons of fantastic action. Statham is a perfect action movie, as they aren't usually just dumb movies. This has a very good story, and good performances. Need a shot of adrenaline? Then watch this, because it will get ya going.

  A bit above the normal standard for Statham's last few action films, which are all a bit the same. This has a good high tempo of action and filmed in away you feel right in the midst of the action. Overall better than expected.

  Well...talk about double cross, intrigue and back stabbing, this film has it all and you never know who the hell's gonna get it next. Statham is back, well he never left but he's back on his own killing everybody in his path whilst being rather nifty with a gun. Like Seagal, Statham is pretty much always cast as either a cop, elite cop, military special forces, ex-cop or ex-military special forces, the same role every time. Now this isn't a huge issue but the attraction is definitely wearing a tad thin these days, much like it did with Seagal along time ago. In this rather unimaginatively titled film Jason is an ex-cop trying to protect a little Chinese girl from pretty much everyone whilst also trying to get hold of a disc with lots of dodgy info on. The little Chinese girl is the only one who knows the combination to the safe which stores the disc. So cue tonnes of gun battles, fist fights, car chases and expecting to see Jason being somewhat invincible. Gotta admit the action is very good is this, nothing original of course but it looks top dollar with some excellent stunts and gritty gun fights. Body count is through the roof as Chinese, Russian mafia and NY police get blown away left right n centre...by Mr Statham. The good thing about the film is virtually everyone is double crossing everyone else including their own men, you never know who's gonna call who in this vicious circle. Highly unoriginal but actually not too predictable although after the first few double crosses you know not to trust anyone, but everyone does look like a suspicious suit. A much better action flick than previous straight to DVD Statham efforts, good production values and very slick. Definitely the highest body count I've seen for some time but Mr Statham needs to expand his range now methinks.

  She has the code. He is the key. Good action movie! 'Safe' is your typical Jason Statham action flick. I think it's fair to say, we don't watch Jason Statham movies expecting Oscar nominations; we watch his movies mainly because the action is phenomenal. If you want to watch a good, action packed movie, then 'Safe' is a safe bet this weekend. A former elite agent (Statham) takes on a two-tier mission: rescue a Chinese girl who has been abducted by the Triads, then use a highly desired safe combination to outwit the Russian Mafia, corrupt NYC officials, and the Triads themselves.

They were fast paced but remarkably I never got lost because of the above standard choreographing. The performances are very strong and the script is full of wit, unlike the majority of people's opinions I think it's one of Stathams best films. He's always been a likable screen presence and here, he opens up a bit, just making him even more of a great screen presence. Overall, Safe just wants to be a violent and decently constructed crime thriller, and I thought it certainly got the job done.

  Safe is a movie where nothing is safe, including logic and reason, but it sure is fun. This is a lively film that seeks to entertain and that's about it. Jason Statham is an effective tough guy and he's quick with the clever wisecrack. He's the obvious heir apparent to Arnold as king of the witty one liner. "Don't lose sleep. He had it coming," he tells a trainload of subway passengers after shooting a guy dead at point blank range. I must admit I also enjoyed seeing veteran actor James Hong as the head of the Chinese mafia. You may not recognize the name, but you definitely have seen him in something. He's done a bazillion movies but probably best known for playing Lo Pan, the ancient sorcerer in Big Trouble in Little China. The fight scenes in Safe are kind of de rigueur for this sort of thing. They never really rise above the graphics of a good video game, but Jason Statham has plenty of charisma to keep things gripping. There's enough creative twists and turns to elevate Jason Statham's latest opus into a worthwhile diversion.

  Alex Rosen: You've got huge balls. Luke Wright: Yeah, it's amazing I can even walk. Modern action stars are rare to come by these days. There are plenty of past action stars who occasionally star in action movies still and there are younger actors that have done a few action movies, but a true action star is not as big a commodity these days. One of the few still consistently putting out work is Jason Statham. It is unfortunate that Statham's films continue to only pick up moderate success, as he has a cool, steely charisma and knows how to deliver a whoopin', but at least the man is fairly consistent. Safe delivers a fairly conventional action film experience, which is made better in spurts do to the early work done to really establish the characters, before settling into crazy action mode. It helps that Statham adds some shades to his performance here, that distinguishes his character a bit more, this time around, but mainly, Safe delivers what fans would want in their standard Statham action film. read the whole review at www.thecodeiszeek.com

  With a thinly written script and acting that is not too special, you can only hope for the awesome action to carry the movie, and in the end, it does, but it is definitely not enough to make it a great film. Jason Statham is likeable, as he always is, but he makes everyone else look like they are acting on a television drama series. "Safe" carries two stories that eventually meet, in order for Luke (Jason Statham) to protect the girl, who is the key to a safe, that holds over 30 million dollars. It is a basic premise with a few clever ideas thrown in. The action is top notch and the quick cuts make this film a blast to watch. "Safe" is definitely not anything groundbreaking, but I had a lot of fun!

  Surprisingly, Safe was nowhere as awful I expected to be. It has a very B movie-esque flair to it, and the action is very hard-hitting and violent. Overall, its nothing to rush out and see, but its a very solid rental to watch with your action junkie friends (if you have any). To quote Bret Michaels "I want action tonight, satisfaction all right!"

  Safe is one of Jason Statham's more serious action movies, and also one of his better ones. It's well made, well choreographed, and brutally satisfying. If you don't like action movies, Safe will not change your mind; it was made for fans of action, and it does it incredibly well. The story is a little too complicated and hard to follow for its own good, but still serves as a respectable accommodation to the action. Statham is great as usual, and there is one scene where he proves that he can be more than a brainless action star and brings out some emotion. I don't really understand why people are saying this film is too predictable and formulaic; no, there aren't any huge twists or turning points, but the brutality of the violence is what surprised me and it's also the aspect of Safe that separates it from other generic action flicks. Final score: 7.5.

  The crime thriller Safe is entertaining and packed with exciting action. Jason Statham leads the cast as an ex-cop who takes a young girl into his protection who's a counter for the Chinese Triads, and is being perused by the Triads, Russian mobsters, and dirt cops. As usual, Statham delivers some exceptional fight sequences that are creative and intense. And the storytelling is pretty tight, and moves at a steady pace. Safe keeps to the typical action formula, but does it well and delivers.
