i love this movie, the acting is amazing. The cast is outstanding, This is right up there with The Stand as far as Rob Lowe's performances. and Dan Byrd is an amazing actor, He has a knack for horrors. though James Cromwell as amazing as an actor he is, hes not really the bad guy type.
So I read the Book...watched the original movie from the 70's and now this...! I have to admit this was a s close to the Book as they can come. Great adaptation, excellent actually and the Cast was superb! Wow...I totally wanna turn around and watch this again. Great Movie!
this is actually a great little remake, especially for it to have been made for tv. its not like that shining remake piece of crap! this one is great!!!!
It didn't suck that much, I was kind of surprised (given the original work was by Stephen King). A few scenes had me creeped out and all the mass deaths amused me (even thought it shouldn't). Very dark movie.
This version is 100 times better than the 1979 movie! But I do have to say, it followed the book pretty well but a lot of things were changed in the movie and in a lot of cases I wasn't sure why... I still recommend watching it :o)
I've read the book of this and it gave me nightmares; I really wanna see the film but if I'm honest, I'd rather watch the older one - more funny than scary.
A typical movie about vampirism. Something we all have seen before. But it is a good attempt to be scary, I would have been scared ten years ago but not anymore.
I expected a much better movie when I bought this DVD!
I can't belive how long this flick is, it was the beginning of my and my two friens horror-movie-marathon, after 20 minutes one of them fell asleep and one hour later the other one was snoring (she woke up with smilies all over her arm and face by the way ;) )
This has to be one of the best Stephen Kings movies out there its a 100 times better than the David Soul version Rob Lowe is dam good as Ben Mears the jail scene alone is worth buying this movie this is the first movie I ever bought online and I love it
This was such a FANTASTIC movie. I loved the creepy old house that they have in it. I love creepy old places because that could mean they're haunted (yes, I do believe in ghosts. To many creepy things happen in my house not to believe in them.).
it was good for a stephen king book made into a movie...it covered aspects that the original movie did not cover giving it a different feel which was cool!
This readaption of Stephen King's classic novel is pathetic. It was modernised & relied too much on technology when it worked fine for the novel. I'm a huge fan of the novel, so I felt the modernising was out of place. The casting decisions were awful aswell. Rob Lowe gave goofy looking facial expressions, & came off forced at times. He had no chemisty with Samantha Mathis, who was also an awfully miscast. Donald Sutherland is a great actor, but he came off like Santa Clause in this film.
Rutger Hauer & James Cromwell were both great in their respective roles. The worst things about this version were the cheesy subplots. The writers basically took crappy subplots from trashy soap operas & wrote them in the script. Dr. Cody was a great character in the novel, so it was nice to see the character in this version as he was missing in the 70's version. The problem is the character is ruined by putting him in a black mailing subplot.
The film also goes at a fast pace, leaving not much room for character development, or for any scares. The CGI was very obvious aswell. For a TV film, you'd think the director would have spread the film out more, instead of rushing everything into a 3 hour film, but that was probably the fault of the producers, not necessarily the director. Salem's Lot should have been a mini series, rather than a 3 hour rushed thing. The 70's version of Salem's Lot is much better.
The remake of Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot' had a lot of potential. the book was great, so the story was there. Rob Lowe starred along with Donald Sutherland... but somethnig was missing from this film.
Ben Mears (Lowe) returns to his home town of Salems Lot to write a book. However the town has become infested with vampires.
The film starts off with a lot of potential, but unfortunatly, like many of Kings films, it turns into a complete mess.
Long and boring... 'Salem's Lot' is a film I hope never to have to sit through again!
This didn't have the sense of gloom and foreboding as the original. The special effects were better and the town looked more like a small dirty little town. The acting was iffyin some spots and very well in others. I didn't like the narration much though. The narration seemed much more forced. I didn't care for Rob Lowe as the lead either. The kids as vampires were very creepy though. Still not bad to watch though.
This is the horror pick for this weekend - if you haven't seen this remake - horror film of the past - don't delay check it out Barlow will be waiting.
