Not as good as Sword of Doom, but still a beautifully directed picture. It's a little slow at times and a little hard to follow at others.
Worth seeing just for the badass snow covered final battle.

Kihachi Okamoto, revered for his many excellent Japanese gangster flicks, teams with Toshiro Mifune for a peculiar Samurai thriller that delivers the swordplpay, but is also a psychological examination of one man's angels and demons.

Before Sin City this was probably the best and most faithful recreation of a comic/graphic story to the silver screen. Koike is a master.

Complex story line which is confusing because of the quick subtitles. A very bleak and savage tale, filmed with equal beauty to Sword of Doom.
