Plot: The peace that reigns over the remote mountain village of Otsu contrasts sharply with the rapid-fire violence of the previous episodes (Samurai X: Trust) set in Kyoto. Working as a farmer, gr...( read more read more... )owing crops and savoring the passage of the seasons, Kenshin comes to terms with the discontent festering in his soul. He regrets the death and suffering he has caused, and hopes to find a better life--with the mysterious Tomoe. A conventional story would end on this note of self-discovery and moral growth. But Samurai Xunfolds like a Kabuki tragedy: the desire for revenge remains strong, especially among the agents of the last Tokugawa Shogun, who are anxious to crush the nascent rebellion led by the Choshu clan. Kenshin was an important agent for the Choshu; Tomoe is just a pawn, but the outcome of a game may hinge on a strategically positioned pawn. Kenshin finally grasps the lessons his master, Hiko, attempted to teach him: the need for inner peace and the possibility of defending the weak without resorting to violence. The exquisitely detailed artwork evokes 19th century Japan, and director Kazuhiro Furuhashi depicts these understated inner conflicts as skillfully as the epic sword fights in the first episodes. Samurai X demonstrates the power of animation to present stories of great emotional depth, earning it a rightful place among the top anime series. Unrated; suitable for ages 18 and up for explicit violence. --Charles Solomon

This manga is amaizing, and this OVA do a referece at the past of Kenshin and his relation with Tomoe, the history of this couple is one of the most beautiful and sad that I have read. The true about the Kenhin's scare is very touching.

It's an incredible anime, you must know it: manga, OVA's and the anime (though only the history attached to the manga is advisable).

This Movie has made a 'Mark' in my heart. The fighting and the graphics were amazing, the way the story was told was beautiful. It's a action pack, heartbreaking Tale about a young samurai who learns the truth beyond his killings. If your a true Anime fan then this is for you.

Perhaps one of the most important anime ever made, almost Shakespearean in structure and equal to the world's greatest films in terms of human drama.

Kenshin: It's better that I do not know why they should die. Doing so would disrupt my concentration.

If you love anime, and you love Kenshin, by all means watch this!
But to watch it just as a movie, it's not quite so good. It's confusing with the cutting in between flashbacks and other scenes, some of the voice actors weren't so good (Japanese voices are often so much better!), and the story was a bit weak in some places.
Apart from that, it's a good movie. Watch it.

Before Kenshin Himura became the sweet, lovable, comedic guy with a reverse blade he was a cold blooded assassin. Definitely gotta love him more just for that.

Ok, so this will sound insanely corny, but this movie made me bawl at the end. After watching this movie I don't think I ever been so depressed in my life. *sniffles* Sadly, I'd still watch it again in a heartbeat.

SO artistic, SO beautiful, SO tragic, the music alone makes you want to slit your wrists...in a delicate and artistic manner of course

It shouldn't be called friggin' Samurai X in North America, for starters, as the lead character is actually a rebel fighting AGAINST the samurai class in pre-Meiji Japan. Stupid title aside, this is an excellent, very subdued story about feudal Japan and one man's struggles to bring about a new age, while grappling with the horrors of his past.

Much better than typical anime fare.

Starting from when the last episode ended, this episode is a lot more boring than the first as Kenshin tries to live a peaceful life with Tomoe as a farmer. The ending saves the episode, providing an epic showdown and creating the origin of Rurouni Kenshin. - The film also tries to be more historically accurate than the romantic-comedy/period drama television series is.

I suggest you watch the series before the OVA since it might be difficult for people who are new to this to understand.
The story concentrates at the beginning more on the relationship of the characters and picks up with action at the end.

The second part to 'Trust' cuts back on the action a little to delve into the storyline. Some may get turned off but it was a great end to the two-parter. Just have to grab the TV series now.

After watching Trust, Betrayal, and Reflection. It got my hard-ass friend to cry and that was a sight in which I felt like I couldn't trust my eye. There's something about the Samurai X collection that I just can't describe.

The ending portion to one of my favorite tragedies besides Cyrano de Bergerac, this "movie" makes a pretty strong performance.

A terrible mistake leads to an accidental death of a loved one, and having this death upon him, Kenshin vows to never use his sword again. Gorgeous animation/music, and soooo much better than the TV series.

It began with sadness and death... it continued with sadness and death... Now the saga of Kenshin becomes a true love story... tainted with revenge, betrayal, regret, self sacrifice and tragedy... and thus it ended in sadness and death... leaving... scars...

A stunning conclusion to a brilliant OVA series. You don't have to be familiar with the Rurouni Kenshin series to appreciate how good this anime is.
