Incredible film! so raw, so intensely real. "Satanas" is based on the true story of the infamous Pozzetto Massacre in 1985 Bogotá, Colombia. The movie revolves around 3 characters with their personal or economic struggles. Obviously with a title like "Satanas" the film has it's violent scenes, some viewers may be offended or shocked. IMDB gave this film a 8.1, I actually think it deseved a little more based on how the narative was done so well into taking us in the mind of a man escalating into his personal hell and also how the story was well written and constructed to it's explosive finale. Probably one of the best if not the best Colombian film I have seen. It's style can resemble films like "City of God" and "Amores Perros".
Favorite Scene: Our professor enters the decline.

One of the best movies that have come out of Colombia in decades. A shivering look at the dark side of three citizens and their judgement day. A disturbed vietnam veteran (hence the comparison to the american classic "taxi driver") A priest who is losing his faith, and a young working class woman are the trinity cornered and accused by a neglectful society and their own personal demons. Remarkable and relentless.

Ahead of different kinds of injustice, a real insane behavior from others and when your life is insignificant and inconsequential for the rest of the world, stuck in a hopeless routine (like the most of ours lives are) you have few choices on the middle of this rats race; some of us try desperately and unsuccessfully get out from that mind condition in quest of provide to the life another way, some people just complain all the time and others do absolutely nothing, however, probably "the smartest" (or from other point of view "the craziest") see the solution in a complete dissimilar approach from the normal and kill another people and heal their spirit. (pretty radical but fortunately (or unfortunately ?) out there are a small number of them)

This is the movie all about, its main theme (and purpose I think) is show how the people can blow up and do what is hidden in the bottom of their souls and is the only thing which will be able to take apart their minds, heal the wounds and, why not, make them feel great with themselves... this things could be obscure and evil, or could be just a walk under the rain.

So, Satanas' plot is fascinating, indeed, the book which the movie is based on is pretty successful and captivating but ¿So is the movie? I don't think so, the performances aren't strong enough, just in a few moments I felt understanding the main character and his final intention, which is not kill with no apparent reason, just because he got mad, I think we have to look deeper, but the movie doesn't allow it.

Still is very interesting and it is worthwhile to see it: Blas Jaramillo is wonderful in his personification and "mini-story" in the movie and it will be a nice experience to see some people fairly punished in the way that most of us have dreamt to punish some scum as well as how some dreams are truncated in the road... adequate or not, just subjective and open to debate, but this situations are real and happen in our towns every day.
