I just finished season one and I am blown away by the story arc. Holly Hunter is Grace Hanadarko, an Oklahoma City police detective with a self-destructive streak who is visited from time to time by a "last chance" angel, Earl, played by a folksy Leon Rippy. Laura San Giacomo is her best friend forever and a colleague who works in the crime scene unit. The supporting cast is excellent and the character development allows us to become acquainted with their flaws as it defines the way this detective squad works together. We also get to see the family dynamic that produced this complicated woman, as her family appears at opportune moments as well. There is a lot of realism to this series and the emotions run the gamut. The writing is superb, on a par with the best that TV has to offer. I rank it right up there with The Sopranos, NYPD Blue, and The West Wing. This one goes on my wish list. I want to revisit this now and savor every moment.
