This romantic comedy is from director, former actor, and regular Adam Sandler collaborator Dennis Dugan. Darren Silverman (Jason Biggs) is a loser at love, so his best friends J.D. (Jack Black) and Wayne (Steve Zahn) set him up on a date with his dream girl, Judith (Amanda Peet). A serious… More

Critic Reviews

  • Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer

This full-throttle sophomoric comedy still feels forced and phony at times, which undercuts the manic efforts of its cast.

  • Terry Lawson, Detroit Free Press

Dugan ... encourages one and all to be as frat-house gross as possible.

  • Curtis Morgan, Miami Herald

A relentless misfire, ineptly stealing from a number of crude but more ably executed comedies.

  • Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

The script ... smacks of desperation beyond saving.

  • Edward Crouse, Village Voice

Despite an early, zesty deluge of gags ... it soon settles down to an anxious man-a-thon.

J.D.: Isn't one-and-only supposed to be, like, one? And only?  "They swore nothing could come between them. Then she came along." Saving Silverman is a movie so stupid, so ridiculous, so weird, so fucked up; that I actually ended up liking it a little. Not a lot, but… More

Zany ensues when a nice guy takes up with one scheming, manipulative itch ... well, almost zany, as halfway through the movie I realized that I hadn't laughed once, a comedy deathknell. The actors are personable enough, the situations seems ripe for jest, and yet: blah.

Pathetic characters, dumb plot without logic and silly scenes, this "romantic" comedy presents a crude and weak script that don't take a lot of laughs. Rotten.

Sometimes a silly movie is really funny. This is one of those. Jack Black is perfect as J.D., a well-meaning but moronic slob. Steve Zahn is great as his slightly brighter buddy, Wayne. Darren Silverman (Jason Biggs), the title character and the third member of the trio of losers… More

I think that Saving Silverman is almost so bizarre and deranged that you can't help but find fascination in what some might call friendship. It is a movie about two nut cases that literally can't survive without their friend so they decide to sabotage his relationship in… More
