But Assol was issued a prophecy by a wizard as a very young child, which has helped her bear her hardships with valor and courage; he told her that someday a brave sailor would arrive to take her to a faraway land under crimson sails, and she has grown up waiting patiently for the prophecy to come true. A young man who has grown up in the village appreciates the beauty of the romantic and dreamy Assol; he becomes a valiant sea captain, and plans to make her dreams come true. This is a beautiful, poetic fairy tale, adapted for the screen with characteristic charm from Alexander Grin's novel by Alexander Ptushko.
