I find this one very enjoyable. Scoop is something bizzare yet completely lovable movie, with the exact amount of comedy, suspense and thrill. I like the concept, a young journalist try to uncover the Tarot Reader killer by the help of quirk old man and earth bound spirit of famo...( read more)us late journalist. What makes it different is the non cliche, second is the chemistry between Scarlet and Woody Allen is just hilarious! Love the ending scene too, unpredictable.

    7/10.

Would have been better if Woody Allen didn't think he had to star in it. He is RIDICULOUS playing against Scarlett Johansson.
  • October 27, 2009
Iwasnt waiting this simpleness from the director of "Annie Hall".
  • October 22, 2009
As awful as any other Woody Allen film.
  • October 13, 2009

Ridiculous in all of the very best ways. I totally grok Woody Allen.

Started to irritate me more and more towards the end but it's entertaining fluff to watch on a boring night.

Scoop, was a good movie. It had some funny moments. I enjoyed Woody Allen's character. I thought he and Scarlett had good chemistry. Scarlett and Hugh and great chemistry as well. It was predictable. But still worth the watch.

A typical Woody Allen movie and one of his best works. It was a last typical Woody Allen movie after scoop he made just some average movie like the every other movie.
    The cast was great .

good twist... Scarlett Johansson was fantastic...
  • August 16, 2009
    funny and interesting
  • August 13, 2009
Interesting it might be, this contemporary comedy is screaming "Woody Allen", and since his jokes were never my cup of funny, it's nothing more than just a very very lacklustre film.
Well, the least I can say is that I learn how to pronounce "Coffee" NewYorker style.

Scarlett Johansson stars as Sondra, an American Journalist student that is given information beyond the grave by a late U.K journalist (Ian McShane). He tells her that a British aristocrat Peter Lyman (Hugh Jackman) is the tarot card killer. She teams with a wise cracking magicia...( read more)n (Woody Allen) to get the story. But in the process she finds herself getting close to Peter and not believing that he's the killer.

Despite bad reviews by critics, I found Scoop to be a fun comedy/mystery. I didn't expect it to be so strange though with scenes with Ian McShane on a boat stuck in limbo on a boat with death. But I enjoyed those scenes. Some critics and viewers said the movie typical Woody Allen. Since I'm not a Woody Allen fan I haven't seen too many of his films, so to me this movie was fresh. I enjoyed it through-out and I loved the end. I also think Johansson is better than she gets credit for. I think she carried this movie well and she was pretty funny alongside Allen.

I saw this film yesterday and I think it was funny, Hugh was just amazing, and I think the end was very predictable, he was the murderer.

In Woody Allen's new contemporary comedy, an American journalism student visiting friends in London happens upon the scoop of a lifetime. Along the investigative trail, she finds magic, murder, mystery - and perhaps love, with a British aristocrat. Wood Allen in London.

Enjoyable film on its own but when it is paired with the famous name Woody Allen it becomes a bit of a disappointment. I'm going to try and avoid the Woody Allen expectations as much as possible because as soon as you don't expect it to be as good as his other films then you will...( read more) probably enjoy it a reasonable amount. I like the recent Woody Allen and Scarlett Johansson pairing because they have a lot of chemistry together and the results as usually pretty good. I do hope that one day they will produce an amazing film because through films like this you can really see the potential.
Yet another quirky plot that is very typical of Allen. It has its ups and downs. I liked that not only does he try to get you guessing but all the way through your going, no it can be him, oh maybe it is, no it can't be, it might be, no way. In the end you'll probably find that you were right to begin with the bullshitting in between was good fun to watch.
Decent performance from Hugh Jackman but nothing that would leave a lasting impression. Scarlett Johansson is really good as usual and together with Woody Allen they produce interesting characters that you really feel for. Allen is his usual funny self with not an ounce of seriousness at all. The pair work together really well and hopefully one day will produce a masterpiece. This unfortunatly, just isn't it.

  • February 18, 2009
actually it was more fun to watch than i expected. as i hate woody allen, i suppose he did fine here.
  • February 16, 2009
Scoop is a good movie, and may have only suffered crtically because it isn't Woody Allen's best work. It's light and predictable, but punctuated by "crossing the river Styx" scenes just absurd enough that it works. I resent Hugh Jackman for being as charming as I'm not, and thoug...( read more)h I still really don't like Scarlett Johanssen, she didn't crash this movie... she did, however, take a lot of acting cues from her director and co-star (Allen), to the point of mirroring him in many scenes and making the dialogue just watchable enough. As always with Allen, the film is well-written and neurotic enough that the corniest of jokes are actually funny. I truly enjoyed it.
