So Distraught in it's own vien attempt of a Thrilling, Out-of-this world Sci-Fi extraveganzsa, that it slightly entertained, and had a plot so loose and disfigured, I felt inclined to ask who ever wrote it, to stiop writing Screenplays.

Screamers is my favorite Roy Dupuis film. It's the first film i ever saw him in and where i first became a fan of his. I have since seen alot of his films and i love him in the TV Show La Femme Nikita. I love Screamers as i'd never seen a film like it before and it had me on the ...( read more)edge of my seat throughout. It wasn't as gory as the sequel was but it was much better in my opinion as with this one i had no idea who was a Screamer and who wasn't but with the sequel it was quite easy to guess. Both great films but Screamers will always be my favourite of the 2. I own the DVD and watch it constantly.

"don't you think the blade wielding, self-replicating race of killing devices we created will eventually become a danger to us?"

    "no."
  • June 17, 2009
Not a bad start, considering the budget for this movie was B movie level.

    must be redone with intellect
  • May 13, 2009
The most dramatic low-budget sci-fi film ever. Phenomenal acting & story (from the writer of Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly, Impostor and Paycheck)

Haha...I watched the rest of Screamers just now...wow, its a odd film, it has a real mixture of quality about it. Its also a real trip down nostalgia lane for me because I use to watch this one as a kid, there was something about it that I liked...now that I?m a twenty seven year...( read more) old filmmaker I look at it a bit differently, but you cant deny that Peter Weller is great in this, and that it (at times) is really very atmospheric...but unfortunately it shifts a bit in quality occasionally...still though I had a good time with it.

a blend of starship troopers and tremors.

From the opening CGI to the ending to he great theme music, Screamers was one of those forgotten gems from 1996

When I first saw this, the main thing I remembered was that there was a cool Mozart song at the start. Yeah, don't ask, I was young. I haven't read the book/story it was based on, but it was really enjoyable. Although it was predictable, I think that was mainly due to my being ab...( read more)le to predict pretty much everything in movies, I love science fiction and this is an awesome movie.

I saw this when I was trying to get the Midnight Meat Train on fearnet.I guess this was Peter Weller's first movie after Robocop. For an obvious low budgeted movie he puts in a good performance. In 2078 after a civil war on a planet, the survivors are offered a cease fire. After bei...( read more)ng nuked from The N.E.B. , the alliance made a weapon called screamers to take out ground forces. In their own words they made a machine to make them turned it on and ran like hell.Fast forward 12 years and they evolved.Weller's character,Hendricksson and a young recruit must cross a wasteland to negotiate peace. When they get there they find 3 survivors because new screamers have infiltrated the bunker.will they make it back before the new screamer reveal itself.Low budget but interesting enough to make you watch it till the end.

Based on a Phillip K. Dick story, this movie delivers, but suffers because of the apparently tight budget. The special effects feel fated when watched today, but they are not too bad. Peter Weller is as usual decent enough in the lead and the rest of the actors left...( read more) rather much to wish for though. A sappy ending lowers the grade a notch, but this is still worth watching.

"If we sound off about this, nobody'll fight the fuckin' war for 'em!"

Peter Weller returned to the sci-fi genre in this brilliant b-movie from the guy who did Scanners 2 & 3, Christian Duguay

good show dont care what any one else thinks of this. it is a good show from the start and has a twist at the end of it that u wouldnt expect.
  • June 22, 2008
As with all Philip K. Dick film adaptions, this one sucks in major ways. The straying from the original ending totally misses the point of the original short story this was based on.
  • June 10, 2008
Tremors meets Starship Troopers gone horribly wrong! I could only take about 20 minutes and turned it off!
  • May 29, 2008
I love Peter Weller and I once had a little crush on Jennifer Rubin, but this movie is so utterly forgettable that the only thing I have not forgotten about it is how bad it was (and I think there were metal things in the soil that gored humans.) I believed Duguay would never be ...( read more)able to make one single good movie after that, and his awful "Joan of Arc" seemed to confirm my prediction, but I did love his "Hitler: The Rise of Evil", which proves that one should never catalogue a director, however bad he may seem to be at first.

started off well but sharply went downhill when a killing machine decided to fall in love. a killing machine in love? up until that point it was okay but not really going anywhere anyhow. on a plus side it was okay to keep you from being bored for nearly 2 hours

OK adaptation of the Philip K. Dick story "Second Variety", but could have been better.
  • March 30, 2008
grrrr i still gotta buy this dvd lol
  • March 29, 2008
I'd just like to read the Philip K. Dick story to see what they missed out in this film. I would imagine some interesting ideas and tensions based on the situations in the story. Like people betrayed and played with as pawns by some huge impersonal power, the constant imminent th...( read more)reat of death and the petty reasons it can come to you or not, as well as the folly of that impersonal power that led to this awful situation, and, as the main theme, the questions of identity and trust and human 'cohesion' despite lack of trust, and knowing who is who and who to trust, and where do all those human motivations come from and how do these machines drives really differ, and much else maybe like that and probably much more interesting than I can imagine. But what did these people make of it? Did someone give some 10 year old boys a budget, studio and get them to do the adaptation? I'm not sure it could be reduced to more banal and shallow simplicities.

Great Film and a good performace for Peter Weller.Nice idea for a movie and the soundtrack is fitting.
    It's a blast.
  • January 28, 2008
Tom Weller ! that's it ... all is said ! OH and ... LONG LIVE ROY DUPUIS!
  • January 27, 2008
This sci-fi film is fine, but slow-paced and predictable.
  • November 6, 2007
This is so silly and I just can't help myself but liking it. How sad is that? :) Peter Weller sucks as usual though.
  • October 29, 2007
Well made if somewhat corny sci-fi. Worth a look.
  • October 22, 2007
This movie was roundly drubbed by the critics. I admit it has it's weak points, but I love Phillip K. Dick's story.
  • October 14, 2007
    This was totally retarded.
  • September 16, 2007
a very old movie but i like it 4 sum reason
  • September 10, 2007
I haven't seen this in forever, but I can still remember pretty much the whole movie so I have to label it as one of my favorites.
  • August 19, 2007
Want to see it! Will have to take into account!
  • August 17, 2007
    solid sci-fi. predictable, but entertaining.
  • July 29, 2007
It was confusing, it made no sense, it was flawed, grossly predictable, but yet I still managed to enjoy it to a degree. Clearly the "hero's" never watched terminator (lets all go and build an automated robot factory). Definitely in the "B" movie genre, it so needed at the very...( read more) least gratuitous tats! You are left with the possibility of a sequel, that might be a bridge to far?

I'm not a huge fan of home-boy Duguay who is trying so hard to be a mainstream action director (and succeeding I might ad). His student work showed so much artistic potential...(tink big, 'sti)
  • July 5, 2007
An interesting setting, and the idea is there, but the story is hardly engaging and is completely forgettable. The love stuff literally comes out of NOWHERE and turns it into a mushy movie. Very strange, and overall very average.
  • July 3, 2007
well, this was interesting to say the least. The story was interesting. I might've actually enjoyed this movie. I'll have to think on it more.
