This is a great take on the classic Charles Dickens novel "A Christmas Carol". Bill Murray stars in this as a television executive who is a scrooge during the holidays. The film is a comedy take on the classic story. Full of great characters and funny scenes. Bill Murray is very ...( read more)funny in this film. A Christmas classic. I watch it every year during the holidays.

kind of a transition period for bill murray but not terrible
  • June 4, 2009
The music that Elfman did seems a little dark for the comedy but I think that adds to the charm. "Bitch hit me with a toaster" how could you not like that?

a hilarious retelling of the classic story. sometimes the retelling of this same tale gets repetitive, but this film re-energized this tale in humor and creativity that is not possible to dislike. bobcat was a nice touch and obviously murray was solid as always, a christmas com...( read more)edy classic.

Goofy!Murray happens to be reasonable enough for a revision of Dickens' classic fable, hehe.Rectangle joys and sloping follies.A comedy of non-manners,pretty engaging but mildly conservative.

    My favorite Christmas movie
  • December 27, 2008
Love this. Gets funnier each year. The ghost of Christmas past is manic. The ghost of Christmas present is extreme violence (a bit of S&M maybe:) and the ghost of Christmas yet to come gets a bum deal once again. The comedy works not only because of the genius of Bill Murray but ...( read more)also because they never let it get too smalchy...bleugh. Even at the end he's playing to the camera. Karen Allen is so mmmmmm in this. If only I had succeeded at being a hard ass TV exec, what a wonderful world this would be...

Dickens' ubiquitous seasonal tale gets yet another re-telling in this amiably dated 80s comedy. Bill Murray stars as a tyrannical TV network president who goes through the usual learning the "true spirit of Christmas"motions via ghostly visitation. As is always the case with this...( read more) type of thing, it's reliant on saccharine drenched sentimentality, but Richard Donner actually manages for the most part to temper it with some post modern slapstick and Murray's deadpan wit. It gets a little nauseating towards the end, the subplot featuring his secretary's son left me feeling particularly bilious. But the first half of the film is classic Murray and the ghosts are all good fun. One of the few Christmas films that I can watch without having to reach for the sick bucket.

I CRIED! That must be good :p
  • December 22, 2008
Bill Murray stars as a mean television executive who's visited by 3 ghosts. It's a goofy and often sleazy re-imagined comedy version of Scrooge. Critics hated it but I always actually liked it despite seeing it's flaws. The very end for one is a little annoying with Bill Murray t...( read more)alking to the films audience.

That was basically my only problem with it though. I still found it to be a fun movie and I liked Bill Murray in it and Karen Allen as his old girlfriend that he let get away. Alfre Woodward is also really good as his assistant with a son that never talks.
