Moves to slow for my tastes. Did feel it had a good story line, but needed more action, really was glad I waited and did not rent it but caught it on regular TV. Not really one I would say ...you must see!!
"How'd you get that scar on your throat? Indians? - No worse. Mormons."
The first thing that came in mind, why I liked this movie was, that the two main characters aren't either good or bad. They're just men.
One is seeking vengeance and the other is trying live with the burden of making a serious mistake.
The first half is very interesting, starting as a cat and mouse game and building up the tension between the two men.
The second half has an unusual ending, that bothered me for a while. But later on I realized that it's always nice to see an ending that differs from that what you've been waiting to happen.
The actors did a good job with the assistance of several good supporting actors.
The cinematography is stunning and the story is meant to make you think. Not much is revealed in the beginning.
Not quite what i expected it to be, so until i see it a second time it gets a 3 1/2 star rating. Casting Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson, two Irish actors, as the main leads in this western seems a bit odd, but i don't think it was too bad. Their acting was fairly good for the most part. I think the story could have been a little stronger, it seemed weak. For quite a lot of the film i was left wondering why exactly Liam Neeson's character was pursuing Pierce Brosnan. When it was finally revealed, it wasn't as interesting as i'd hoped. The landscapes in the fiml are excellent, from the begginings snowy pine forests all the way to the barren sandy desert. The film is quite slow and kind of meanders along and isn't all guns blazing cow boy action. Overall though the film was fairly enjoyable and i've seen much worse. Just don't expect any 3:10 to Yuma.
A pretty decent western with a quality cast. It is very much a tracking a man on the run film, a very dangerous man as it happens. It is wonderfully shot to as the backdrop changes from the snowy mountains, forests, open plains and into the desert. It gets a little surreal in the final third but still an interesting film.
The first 20 mins is class but as the film progresses the ideas run out.Still a very interesting western but not as good as 3:10 to yuma which came out around the same time.the movie is reasonable gory for its genre
ok film bit long at the end. turned abit wierd too, what with all sorts of people making cameo appearances, a bit unnessarily too. but all this happens after the twist of the story is revealed..worth a look though
''Go as you wish. That which is yours will always return to you. That which you take will always be taken from you.''
At the end of the Civil War, a colonel hunts down a man with whom he has a grudge.
Liam Neeson: Carver
Pierce Brosnan: Gideon
Seraphim Falls is a western which boasts some fantastic landscapes and scenery and a plot that is a chase. What starts as a man hunting another for revenge and vengeance escalates into a climactic showdown.
I love how the film doesn't give you a black or white perspective of a good guy bad guy. Sometimes in life there isn't either and Seraphim Falls shows this. Each man having a reason for his actions, a price paid by a past unable to be forgotten. Both men are connected on a level which i found fascinating even their dreams overlapping in one instance totally sucked me in. Pierce Brosnan was fantastic as the bearded Wonderfully named Gideon who's on the run from Carver. He has a charisma and resourcefulness in his role that has to marveled at. Liam Neeson as Carver is a cold intelligent man haunted by the past as he tries to track down Gideon. As it progresses we find that all is not what appears to be.
My only downside is that it tends to get abit boring in some areas yet makes up for it with its symbolism in others especially as it nears the final showdown in the desert.
The result is a revelation that will pack a powerful impact on the emotions.
Some critics said this was great, and it wasn't bad. It just didn't grab me. If you like westerns, give it a shot; there aren't too many being made now.
A good film with a gorgeous backdrop in the picturesque but wild and unforgiving style of Cold Mountain. A revenge tale, Brosnan is the hunted and he is much more on form here. Utterly believable as this grizzled man of the wilderness than he was as Bond towards the end of that particular tenure. I'm never sure about Liam Neeson - sometimes he's lightweight but here with a good story and direction he puts in a great performance as the sadistic hunter who lost everything and blames Brosnan's ex-army character for it and wants bloody revenge. Witness Brosnan falling into the swollen and freezing river, how cold he gets and what he does to warm up his hands! Strong film with unhurried action it rolls along at the correct pace rather than some westerns where it's all action all of the time.
Well guess you can say this is a western, If you Classifiy it as one, then its the best western to come along in a very long time. Acting was outstanding, you will not leave your seat.
Wasn't sure what to expect, and still not quite sure if I enjoyed it or found it boring, but Neeson and Brosnan were both great and Brosnan setting an ambush by hiding in the eviscerated carcass of a horse is just classic.
Misses the spirit of the old westerns.
However, the landscape and the performances are amazing.
The strongest point in the movie is that we don't have a good and a bad guy, but just two persons with a wicked past.
The Civil War has ended, but Colonel Morsman Carver is on one final mission: to kill Gideon no matter what it takes. Launched by a gunshot and propelled by rage, the relentless pursuit takes them both far from the comforts and codes of civilization, into the bloodiest recesses of their own souls.

this film started extremely strong out of the gate and stayed that way until there were only 20 minutes left, and then the film fell apart a little bit. the acting and plot were solid and the story was strong for being overly simple, but the desert scene at the end was contrived and anticlimatic. decent western overall.
Actually a very not worthed movie to watch... This movie is like a hide and seek play with the character is a cat and five dogs... At last just one cat and one dog stands.... Actually i didn't watch all the movies becoz i was so sleepy!!! This movie is so boring, no good at all... I wonder why even Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson wants to play in this movie???
