Extremelly overrated. This action-packed sci-fi film has the same quality as the T.V. series "Firefly". It has nothing special in it, nothing new, nothing original. Dissapointed and I was bored at some parts. The best part of the film is the fight scene with River at the bar and the opening scene which was a single shot. Nothing more.
Oh, man, this movie is almost as good as the series "Firefly" from which it originated. Take my advice and watch the series before the movie. It will make a hell of a lot more sense!
I wish I could see this movie objectively from the stand-point of one who watched the series first, but I cannot. The movie was so incredible I had to go buy the series. There are a few things which leave non-Firefly viewers in the dark (Inara and Shepard Book aren't properly introduced), but aside from that the movie is pure genius.
That being said, I actually recommend watching Serenity before tackling the series if one hasn't seen either. It left me fulfilled, so it would be a disservice for me to encourage any other route.
The show has survived the transition from TV to film brilliantly. The cast all works fantastically together and their chemistry is undeniable. The dialog is quick and witty and the story is a great one.
Do yourself a favor and have some fun in Joss Whedon's space western universe.
I really liked the idea behind Serenity, but it was hard to watch it transform into your somewhat typical conspiracy movie with a sci-fi mask. It contained some very good action sequences, but they were too short lived and there was not enough of it. The acting wasn't very good but the actors did have some decent chemistry. Basically, with this one you have to take the good w/ the bad. In the end, Serenity has some pretty clever maneuvers and was entertaining, but also was very forgettable. There just wasn't enough to hold onto. I did like the script though, and the assassin (one of the few characters that wasn't too unoriginal for his own good) was pretty cool. All in all though, this wasn't as good as the hype that I've heard.
the movie is really great,if you haven't saw it you should, first I wasn't interested but my brother convince me to first watch the tv show that inspired the movie (both produce by Joss Whedon) and I can say that the movie is like the tv show it's fantastic :D
Spectacular. A mind-blasting good time. A masterpiece. Director and creator Joss Whedon has crafted a new breed of adventure from his classic short-lived tv series Firefly. A tremdously entertaining,nail-biting and thrilling instant sci-fi classic. A hip, funny and action-packed thrill-ride. The story is brilliant and the excitement is non-stop. The most original film in years. This makes Star Wars look like puppy chow. A great cast of actors who do a an acceptable job. Nathan Fillion gives a breakout performance. A totally enjoyable adventure that you can not get enough of. Awsome action sequeces and great humor. Stunning, thrilling and breathtaking. An unforgettable and exhilerating adreniline-rush.
I was really looking forward to this film and I can't say I was disappointed. This is one of the better sci-fi films out there and I will definitely check out the short lived TV series Firefly after this. Also one thing I didn't expect in this film was how good the drama was, I was expecting a kind of Riddick type Sci-fi flick, but instead there is a great story and good acting and the script is pretty solid (except for the choice few lines probably adopted from being used to writing scripts for TV... aka really cheesy). Though that is not to say the action isnt good, some scenes are really kick ass!
It was very different from what I thought it'd be. It was good, tense and a little bit funny. Adam Baldwin and Alan Tudyuk were the ones I recognized from other stuff and they were good ^^ The others did a great performance aswell. Summer Galu were weird, and why did she looks so scary almost when she fought? x'D
This is a good movie. Perfectly cast, excellent effects, and characters as unique as the actors who played them. The fight scenes in this movie are less of an actual battle but more of a dance.
I have to seriously wonder, was it FOX's intent to shoot themselves in the foot when they Canceled Firefly?
I had known next to nothing about the show when it was actually on, It had been put on against Farscape which I had already become invested.
But in October of 05, I went to see this movie and instantly wanted more. Because of this I also now own the Firefly Series on DVD and am proud to call myself a Browncoat.
Universal, should you read this, we need at least, AT LEAST, two sequels...
I never really watched the show, but now that I've seen the move I want the series on dvd! Joss Wedon is awesome. And why not, he made Buffy & Agnel. And gotta love Nathan Filion as Mal & Mr. Baldwin as Jayne. Totally great.
